FIFA 21

I feel that pros still suffer from bs the same as everyone else but they have the skills to overcome it. This is what separates them from us mere mortals.

Also fully agree with this. I'm not good enough to fight the rig unfortunately.

To me that means there IS a skill gap. Being able to consistently win in the face of the bs is what differentiates the top players from the good players.

There is a skill gap but its very small. Smaller than it ever has been unfortunately the pros and top level players have lost way more than previous years and also do considerably worse. That's not to say they lose a lot they don't but more than previous and it's down to the RNG and overpowered AI.

I think there are just too many cheap tactics you can use to narrow the gap, ie packing your box using drop back with extendo leg AI blocks or implementing the best man to man marking football has ever seen through the use team press.

One thing I think they have improved this year is finishing, this year if you get a truly clear chance you can feel pretty confident you've got a >60% chance of it going in. Last year it was always a crap shoot, even when you were through on goal, which lead to missing far too many clear cut chances and then losing to a freak rebound goal.

Neither jockeying or AI blocks are a problem on their own, but in combination they're a problem. Jockeying makes it far too easy to get back and make a miracle tackle even when you've been completely and utterly done, and if you're smart you'll just jockey around with your CDM and let your drop back CB's automatically mop up anything that does get past you - the exact same problem we had last year.

How you found the new patch? Apparently AI blocks have taken a reasonable kicking, personally I'd turn AI blocks down even more and offer boosts to manual defending (like Madden) to reward people who manually defend and further encourage it.

I still don't think the game is a lost cause this year, it is superior to Fifa 20, it just feels a lot more like Fifa 20 than I would have hoped.

I think AI blocking is a tricky thing to get right. It'll be super annoying if the AI does nothing and just stands there like a lemon as the ball flies 3cm away from their leg and they fail to move. You can only control 1 player and you can't always player switch quick enough or accurately enough to stop someone that's passing the ball around.
I think you need the AI to do some things, like track runs, intercept balls and make obvious tackles and blocks.

I'm not saying "I think we do...", but I do wonder if sometimes people get things go in their favour that they ignore or miss but would be swearing at the TV/monitor if it had happened the other way around. You have to remember that you'll be on the negative end of some of these nerfs too and you may not realise how often they save you.

It's like when I watch the streamers and they complain about the opponent getting a lucky goal or tackling the guy 3 times but not getting the ball. When they score it it was a great goal if they break through 3 tackles it's because they're such an awesome player (the in-game player, not the streamer).
And they'll complain about the games they lose to worse players, but rarely mention the times the beat a better player. Saying things like "9 times out of 10 I win that game", but I don't hear "9 times out of 10 I lose that game".
I think people are biased, even when they don't mean to be.

@GoogalyMoogaly I score and win many games shouldn't, equally lose and concede goals I shouldn't. Which highlights the problems that it doesn't truly represent skill.

@Rids you word it much better than I do and I completely agree. The sweat tactics use make an average player do well. I'm not the best defender I'm just average, but when some guy who has been controlled most the game goes team press I'm a lost cause it's far too cheap.

I've never felt like iv lost control of a game as easily as this one, I've lost more games this year when taking a lead then I have in the last 3 iterations.

As for patch hand on heart feels the exact same AI blocks included which is a shame it's driving me nuts.

Id like to see team press crucified and more nerf to the AI aswell as make manual tackles more rewarding.

Oh and don't get me started on the 1v1 slide through the back yellow card scenarios

Graphics looks really crisp but then its a football game, the gfx were barely noticeable as being poor. Hard to see a 40gb difference unless it was all about that Trent intro :p
