FIFA International Friendlies ** spoilers ** [2Oth May - 8th June 2016]

As soon as we reverted to a sensible shape and the subs occupied familiar positions we started to look like a football side, albeit against 10 men.

Well, that should be enough to show Hodgson that particular system doesn't work at least.

Thoroughly unentertaining

Not a great performance but still got the win, a good sign. Portugal are no mugs as well, they'll be around come the QF's..

Well I still think it's the righ let formation but it backs up my assertion that it has to be Wilshire>Milner as you need some guile and none of that CM trio is able to prcodw that or pick out a killer pass. Plenty of graft but no guile.

Also not sure if it was unfamiliarity with the system or Roy being as negative as ever but the FB's always seemed 10 years too far back and ten seconds too late into every attack. If we go with that system, which we should, we need width from the FB's so Roy needs to trust them to push on them trust in Dier to sit which is what he does. Opting for a system but bottling the tactics is a bit dumb and ends up with a toothless display.

Only caught the last half hour but it didn't seem an impressive show. Time and time again moments of brilliance were squandered by an inability to connect the dots in the box. Yeah, we won, but we won a man up and made one hell of an effort out of it.

I still think this will be classic English side; good enough to give us hope before we lose to the Germans on penalties in the Quarters or Semis.

The BBC is actually running a piece on how Rooney might have blunted the England attack. Welcome to United of the past few years. He has to play therefore you sacrifice the entire squad to accommodate a now average player in a position that he has never been suited for.

All the papers are running analysis of his best position.

On the bench.

If it were me, I'd have taken Drinkwater over of Rooney.

Because we've not taken any real wingers, I'm not sure how we're going to play a 442.

The only option as I see it is a 3-5-2 with Walker and Rose as wing backs, and 3 of Alli/Dier/Lallana/Sterling/Wilshire in the middle. Vardy and Kane up front, with Sturridge/Rashford as the options. Rooney to be ball boy.

It's a shame we've not had the time or preparation to work on a 'real' system; I don't think the team really know their own roles.
