I'm pretty sure at this point that Hodgson has a "must play Rooney" clause, this midfield role is the only position where he's not blatantly rubbish, he unbalances the whole attacking side of the team but who cares...
 
Portugal could do well in the tournament if they are difficult to score against. Then let Ronaldo do everything in attack.

I don't see who else provides any meaningful attacking presence.

Missing their star player and one of the best players in the world as well.

We could do with Portugal getting a late winner to give everybody a kick up the backside.
 
Not that expectations were particularly high, but our performances in these friendlies have been a cause for concern, especially for Hodgson.

Portugal have never been impressive, always the same players some of which are past retirement age. Surely they have some youth talent at least to inject some life into the team?

Ronaldo really isn't a one man team anymore. He is a tidy finisher but he doesn't beat men that much and doesn't create something from nothing very often.
 
The starting XI was pretty retarded wasn't it? No idea what the point of it was other than to see how a poorly thought out squad would do.
