it baffles me that these multi-millionaires are at a world cup representing a (comparatively) poor country and all they can think about is their appearance fee...

Last time it happened I don't think they'd been paid for months on end. Yes most of them are already loaded with the wage from their club but it's hardly fair if everyone else at the tournament is getting paid for their matches and you aren't on a much lower fee at that.
