FIFA World Cup 2018 - Round of 16 [30th June, 1/2/3 July] **spoilers**

Agreed about Sterling. He's had enough opportunities, maybe he'd do better coming on as a sub when legs are tired, in any case.

Don't understand people knocking Sterling after tonight. He was one of our best players. Poor to the point of non-existance in the first two matches, he redeemed himself tonight, imo. Kane, on the other hand, was oddly absent. Almost every time there was a chance in the box, Kane wasn't there. He's supposed to be England's star striker - strike, for goodness sake. Still, he played more than well enough in the other games, and captained excellently tonight - staying calm in the face of Colombian provocation and keeping the team level headed.

In any case, if you don't play Sterling, then who? Vardy is a pure striker, and needs a quality of service that is missing from the England team right now. Rashford is a promising talent but, for now, isn't the finished product. He can put together some lovely moves to dodge a defender or two but he doesn't connect it into goalscoring opportunities.

I really think Southgate dropped the ball in that match. His desicion cost us the win in 90mins.
I don't know what he did at half time but we came out trying to defend a win.

When in England footballing history has defending a lead ever resulted in a happy ending.
We were turning around and passing backwards for 45mins.no one moving off the ball and no one making runs into the box.

Then he brings on Dier to help that? What the hell. Me and probably about 50mill people were saying get that waif Sterling off, Get Ali off and attack this game.

If we can see it, why couldn't he. I have praised him so far for his decisions to drop under performing players but he's lost my respect today.

We got lucky. We can't play like that again.

Not sure why there's so much stick for Vardy. He's no Kane but when he had the ball he looked like creating something at the very least. Him and Rashford linked up well on occasion against Belgium too. I'd play Vardy with Kane next game with Sterling on the wing instead of Alli.

Can't agree RE weak at the back, we're ok, not great but just ok. The middle of the park is where we're terrible, we literally have nothing there apart from ball chasers.

I can't really say where we are weakest - you seem to have a better level of ability to analyse it than I do - but certainly the defence hasn't performed well when put under pressure and definitely what is going to hurt us badly against a good team.

I've nothing against Vardy and he is a capable footballer but nothing good ever seems to happen for England when he is on the pitch somehow the game around him becomes very generic and doesn't seem to have the creativity that is otherwise seen - it goes back to previous England team staleness.

I was surprised to see Rose make a couple of positive and almost imaginative touches tonight - when both of those two are on the pitch the game seems to start almost going backwards into dead play which generally seems to become England's undoing if it goes on long enough.

Not sure what game you were watching. He gets knocked off the ball at every attempt and miscontrols the ball nearly every time. He even had a decent clear shot on goal and fluffed it. Terrible.
