FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarter-Final ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th December 2022]

Not to state the obvious but I think that Modric is probably Croatias main man and Brazil should probably try to take him out of the game.

Oooh he has got away with that one. Studs in the air. If he had caught him properly there that would have 100% been a double red card.

How on earth was that not a red?

Early in the game. Didn't catch him really. WC quarter final. Very dangerous though. Guy was not injured more through luck than judgement.

On an unrelated note. Does anyone else feel like football is starting to get far too much like American sports where they want to give us stats on absolutely everything. "Pressures applied", "Duels won" etc.

Yep.

Not a good look, at all.

Yup, very much so. So many of the stats are meaningless. "Pressures applied" for example, heavily favours Croatia. Well of course it does - Brazil have had most of the ball.

Most American sports work well with stats, as they're easily broken down into individual moments (baseball, American football, and to a lesser extent basketball and hockey), whereas there are so many different ways to play and be a successful football team that a lot of them are no help at all.

Wasn't it the old Aberdeen manager, or something, who said "Statistics are like miniskirts. They give you good ideas but hide the important parts."

Vinicius really is a good footballer. Much more intelligent in possession than Neymar.

Also, Modric is still unbelievable. He could play until he's 40 and still be one of the best CMs in the world.

Edit: Also, I said at the start of the tournament that Brazil wouldn't win it as they don't have the midfield to do so. They might still sneak through here, but this match is giving me confidence that I'm right!

Yeah, he doesn't rely on speed. He just knows where everyone is and where to move the ball to take it away from the opposition. Very economical player.

Brazil need to get more control in the midfield or they will lose this.
