FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarter-Final ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th December 2022]

Yeah talking about the strength of our league is only relevant if our league was mostly English. It's not, the big clubs have a massive minority of English players.

Having the strongest league and the most money has trickle down economics. The top premier league academies are the best in the world. Which in turn is going to be helpful to the future generations. We are already seeing this with Chelsea players.

Yes/No. We have no rules regarding academies so where we once had really strong academies throughout the league (West Ham, Southampton for example) Now those clubs aren't producing such great youngsters. Also the high amount of money in the league means foreigners flock there so it's harder to get noticed as a youngster. More and more we're seeing young English players having to go elsewhere to get their chance. Compare the number of players the City academy (probably one of the most invested) produces compare to say Ajax or Benfica. It's not even close.

I think people are over thinking it a bit - it's tournament football and not really a great standard either. When you get two evenly matched teams, it's always going to require a bit of luck at times. The Champions League knockout games are often erratic and that's over two legs.

Reports today that Southgate is considering quitting - I really hope he does. He's done well considering he's a fairly average manager (at best). There was a lot of discontent over the past year or so; that will come back to the fore when qualifying and the nations league start.

It’s basically 50:50 someone has to lose and Saturday night it was us. We were playing the World Champions and the favourite for this tournament too. We gave a great account ourselves but the way some of you are acting is like we had a divine right to win the tournament. We didn’t, we have no more of a right than any of the others.

Managing England is like leading the Country. We all think we know what we’re talking about, that we could do things better. I’ve seen little to suggest that is the case.

I agree, England have a high floor but a low ceiling. They’ll beat every team they’re meant to but lose against everyone they are meant to.

@Robbo only evenly matched because France had 6 or 7 starters out.

I’m sure I seen a stat on Twitter that said England haven’t beaten a higher ranked team since 2002 win against the argies.

I think he'll go. England had been on a bit of a decline in the (admittedly rubbish) nations league. But losing 4-0 to Hungary in any game is inexcusable. The teams we faced in the world cup:

- Iran. Always expecting to beat them.
- USA. Dull as dishwater game.
- Wales. Team in transition. Bale and Ramsey, who have carried Wales in the past, are now past it. Both were utterly rubbish. Good performance from England, but yeah, Wales are poor at the moment.
- Senegal. Caused us a few issues but ultimately we were the better team. You always get a handful of African teams get through the group stages, but they tend to struggle against more organised teams (Morocco being the exception this year).
- France. Toughest game. Played reasonably well to be fair and unlucky that the normally reliable Kane forgot he was playing football and not rugby. And talking of Kane, he was back to his tricks of receiving the ball at left back which doesn't help anyone.

I think it needs a new face with some fresh ideas. I can't stand watching Maguire and Stones hold on to the ball for 5+ seconds each only to pass the ball back to each other.

Bellingham is quality for the team as well as individually. I think he'll be a future England captain. When Kane missed the penalty, he made a conscious effort to sprint over to him to try and gee him back up. And towards the end of the game he was talking to other players. Proper leader on the pitch. Kane as captain just doesn't do it for me. The voice you hear the most when he's playing is Henderson who also will increase the intensity if required.

Southgate set to stay on. Great.

He was always going to tbh, no club in world football at any sort of level is going to take him on and im sure he doesn't want to pass up the opportunity of making a run in the Nations League B.

Failed club manager and ultimately a failed International manager.

It was never in doubt. He would either be pushed or stay on and because the FA have no ambition its stay on.
