What is the rule? You need possession?

So if you're chasing a through ball 15 yard ahead but going to get there first and someone drags you down it isn't a red or?

You don't specifically have to be in possession but in this instance, you couldn't say Mount was clearly going to gain possession and have a clear and obvious chance to score. There was still plenty left for him to do. In the instance you describe a red is a lot easier to give, assuming he was running directly on goal and the ball was easy to control.
