Fighting Frost

My drive has it's own micro climate. Cars never freeze up if they are parked far enough up it. Assume its something to do with it having walls on three sides and two boiler flues venting on to it.

Just get in the car and crank the heat up to max have the vents pointed at the windscreen, always clear in 5 min.

That also uses more fuel.

You need to warm that engine up, if your using all that heat to warm the inside up it needs to use more fuel to warm that engine up ;)

Car on, heated windows on, walk away and have breakfast *If you have a driveway* come back 5-10mins toasty inside and car is ready to have its nuts revved off.

Open garage and drive off. I am one of the rare few that actually use a garage for car storage. Although at the moment my Celica is in bits so the daily is on the drive.

My usual technique is an empty bottle of Robinsons squash filled with warm water. Less than a minute to do the whole car.

When I first saw thread title my first thought was "Kill it with Fire" :D

More seriously. Get a Good quality screen de-icer/screen-wash.

Use it neat in the wash bottle and put some in a pump sprayer to use on the side windows.

Avoid methanol based ones (they dont work and are also toxic) also avoid PEG based ones (They are toxic too.) On frosty days thirsty animals will be attracted to puddles of tempting looking liquids! :(

A good one will melt the frost before your very eyes.

Can you give an example of a non-toxic de-icer? Thanks!

Take helmet out of nice warm house, stick on head, don't worry about the frost on my screen.

I use autoglym de icer on the glass. It works better than any of the spray can ones and doesn't all re-ice up when you start driving. That and heated seats.

If frost catches me by surprise I use water from the cold tap and a scraper and I turn my heaters on full whack.

If I know or expect frost then I get my cover out the boot and lay that on my windscreen, leaving only my door windows to scrap, with cold tap water and scraper. I'll get a full car cover when I find 1 reasonably priced.

set car timer for 5-10 mins before set of time on work days to turn the heating on. If setting off earlier then open up carwings app on phone and turn heating on whilst in bed. nice added benefit of electric car

1: Scrape side and rear windows.
2: Apply warm water to front screen
3: Drive away

Quicker than any of those low end Fords with their heated screens :p

Start car, litre of tepid water over the windscreen and side windows.

30 seconds, job done

This, 100 times faster than a heated windscreen at getting rid of ice. People think it's going to crank the windows but in reality the water just needs to be a few degrees above ambient to work

I am aware of the fact this uses more fuel im just not that fussed :)

Oh I look forward to moving somewhere I can have a garage to put the cars in, there will be so many good things about it.
