Fighting leads to Stress

Thanks guys.
It was a shocking incident and your views supporting me help a lot.

To answer the earlier question the guy was painting the front of his house as i walked past but i didn't notice this until later when i returned to the house with the copper, there was a ladder outside the house. The dog either came from inside his house from an open front door or out the front garden through an open gate.
He definetely saw the dogs fighting as it was no more than ten metres from him and the noise and scrap was odvious. His dog came out of the garden barking growling and just attacked. No stand off or anything.
He did the same and just came running out his yard screaming and swinging.
I do feel justified in my action but still i don't feel good about inflicting injury.
i suppose good may come from this. If he secures his dog in the future stopping it attacking a weaker dog good. Also if my spanks have made him think before attacking innocent people in the street good also.
After all if i had let him he would have kicked me down the street when he was in the wrong the whole time.

Perhaps i should have let him then had him on assualt charges and in line for a massive compensation claim. Seems the way these days.
Personally i just deal with things as they come and am thankfull i am able to defend myself adequately.

You should have taken the Texas way - shoot him to the ground then tie his carcase to the back of your car and drive around town!

:D

Tbh mate, I don't blame you. My dogs have twice been attacked by the same dog and same irresponsable owner who doesn't use a lead - I do. The second time it happened I had to take one of mine the vets as there was a big gash on her back due to the attack. At the time I was too shocked to do anything about it, but if I happens again I'll have no worries about kicking the other dog till it stops.

Oh and if you need somewhere to hide from the coppers if it goes bad, let me know ;)

You did the right thing. His dog should have been under control, it attacked your dog and may have attacked you. You broke up the dog fight (understandably you're not going to put your hand anywhere near a bunch of snarling teeth!) and he then attacked you - you acted in self defence and floored him. As long as you didn't go laying into him as he was on the floor or anything.....no problem. You even phoned the cops and filled them in. I think you did it all by the book to be honest. If it did go any further, which it probably won't, it'll just be a "knock for knock" type situation and that'll be it.

My dad had a very similar situation once, although it didn't end in a punch up. He was walking his dog (soft as **** chocolate lab) down the road on a leader (so his dog couldn't even bite back) when a staffy ran across the road barking and starting attacking the lab. Dad kicked the other dog off (more of a lifting kick, rather than a striking kick) and the staffy owner went ballistic.

'My dog doesn't bite' - except for obvious drool/bite marks on my dads dog. Dad advised staffy owner to keep his dog on a lead; a) to stop it running across a road frequented by busses, and b) to prevent another dog/the staff being chewed to shreads - or worse a child. Luckily my dad didn't have to fight like you did, but I'm well with you on this one.

Not heard anything back as yet, Thankfully.
I expect a call tomorrow off the PC that came round as he was a sound guy and i feel understood my concerns.
I would like to know the guy is ok at least if nothing else. I have in the past taken pleasure in such actions but i must say this disturbs me.
I have gone out my way over the last ten years to reform my character and now i actually believe i am getting somewhere. I am getting quite emotional whilst typing this as i feel i have finally become someone normal and decent.
My self preservation instinct took over today thankfully saving me from a beating but inside i know i did the right thing and acted justly.
My hand still aches and is seeping watery blood but that matters not.
If i do end up charged with this and go to court i will still feel i did Only what i had to.
Just for the record i didn't lay him out. I jabbed him once which just made him mad. When he steamed in again i gave him to very solid rights. He was on his feet but odviously dazed. It was over and i stopped i never followed up or went for any nasty blows. All my blows were purely instinctive and not at all placed. I do feel him steaming on did him no favours as he ran on to the punches.
The way i see it if i haven't heard anything by this time tomorrow then i can rest easy but for now my guilt is gone i feel ok.

Thanks all you have been a Great help.

Jesus talk about guilt tripping yourself. GO down the pub and tell your mates how you smacked about some git and then kicked his dog for looking at you funny!

Update.
I had a visit from the coppers a while back. I crapped myself and thought i was going down the road.
The male copper said that he was not here to arrest me but wanted to hear my side and also said the guy invovled was concerned that i may be an animal hitter. :(
Within 5 minutes the cops said they can see my dog is well looked after and can also see that i am clearly upset by this whole incident. They said they feel it's something the police should not be involved in and would i like to go round and speak to the guy and maybe apologise and put it all to bed.
I told them i was happy to and have just came back from a very long conversation with the chap.
I apologised profusely and both of us admitted our own fault in the situation.
I meant my apology whole heartedly as i honestly took no pleasure in the incident and felt terrible after seeing the state of his face.
The coppers warned me that after seeing the state of his face a picture of the injuries would Certainly lead to a prosecution as they feel although they know i only give him 2 rights the 2nd one was a step to far.
I believe his nose was broken and both sides of his face were very badly bruised. :( the copper said he looked like a panda and he did. I felt and still feel bad although i was only defending myself and Never once took a step forward.
I do feel everyone understands that i only reacted to the situation at hand and i did mention to the guy that if i hadn't been able to defend myself i would have taken a kicking for having my dog attacked whilst walking down the street on a lead. Which is odviously wrong and he had to agree. It just all got out of hand in a matter of seconds.
At this point it was agreed by both that the whole situation was bad and should never have happened. I feel much better having apologised even though it was Not my fault.

One thing is that i have learnt a lesson this weekend and i will use it to improve myself further.
Great respect goes out to the guy involved for acting as he has after the event and accepting my apology. I will go out my way to be sociable if i see him again and am confident we can both move onwards and upwards now.

A very regretable incident that i took no pleasure in at all.
Please keep your infintile warrior comments to yourself.

Thanks for reading and to those that posted thanks for helping.

Good to hear you seem to have sorted it out, as far as i'm concerned you did nothing wrong, he went for you, you defended yourself, end of.

Good to hear that he seems to have taken responsibility for his actions, many people in the world today will not accept responsibility for their actions but he seem to have done so.

Everyone has a right to defend there self’s and you did exactly that, try not to beat yourself up about it too much, many people would probably have gone further than you did, you restrained yourself and no permanent damage was done.

You did the thing malc mate. You know it and it sounds like the other guy knows it too. Glad to hear it all turned out OK :)

Glad to hear it all got sorted out. It always strikes me though how things can change in a second. You head out for a walk with the dog and trouble was probably the furthest thing in your mind, you arrive back home with a bloodied hand and some guy with a sore face. Such is life, eh. :)

It's a pity there aren't more people like you around, someone who obviously has the know-how and ability to cause a lot of damage to someone but who when put to the test was able to deal with the situation in a controlled and admirable way but also then feel guilty about it all.

You have been guided by your conscience and these days it's refreshing to see someone who guided by his conscience is willing to put himself in prosecutions way in an attempt to put things right rather than just walk away..

I take my hat off to you...
