This is really random....

There was a craze in London/Essex where everyone was wearing these shoes.

I can't find a picture of them for ****.

They were solid colour, red, blue green mostly and possibly suede? I'm not sure... Some kind of oversized skate shoe or possibly 3/4 boot. They looked chunky.

Any resident trainer freak or ex 90s raver got any idea what I'm on about?

Do you mean Fila Trailblazers? They were everywhere around that time.

there was a catterpillar boots craze in the 90s also.

I had some like £100 then wrecked them pretty fast in a forest, don't think they are really that tough, they got covered in scratches from bracken or something

Had a pair circa 88/9 White with a green/black swipe and a rubber strap over the middle of the lace area.

The colour line was fairly unique, they were cross trainers. I had them from Intersport, could have been exclusive, I've never found an image on the web.

Later down the line I picked up a going cheap pair of high top tourissimo, they were far more common.

Chav clothes - Shell suits :p
Its the fashion of JD Sports (Bankrupt?) or Sports Direct

I think i found them, not a 100% match (from memory) but they seem closest to it and the time frame is appropriate..

For me it was all about the air bubbles at that time. Nike Air and of course Rebok who had the pump in the tongue that you could inflate by squeezing it

Rebok pumps were classic, Fila were a but more exotic to start with but were so clumpy and huge the idea that they were any sort of sporting equipment was laughable.
I picked up a pair in the states as a kid and they were frankly ridiculous when I look back at them!
The original air max were far more useful as a sports shoe, and seemed to be more coveted for longer.
