Final Fantasy 7

Don't play the PC version. It takes a while to get it working properly then you'll put 30+ hours into it and it crash continously when you come to Rocket Town or some other random place with no fix

One advantage to the PC version is that there are a few basic mods around. It can be whacked up to higher resolutions (even though it's a bit pointless because the backgrounds are static images so are still the same low resolution) and you can get higher detailed character models. Doesn't really give a very authentic experience though.

Hmm, i own a PS1 but its broken. Got loads of old PS1 games lying about i wouldn't mind picking up again, FF7 included. Is it still illegal for me to use a emu if i use legal games?

if you own the game you can run an emulation of it, if not i think you have to delete the ROM after 24 hours (or so the emu sites used to say when i used them years ago)

ok got me an emulator and a rom now so that should be good to go when I get my games at the weekend. Now all I need to know is... a joypad, using epsxe is there a good cheap joypad that could be configered to play good with this? would any joypad do?

Also about FF11, is that still on the go? I always wanted to get it, but at the time a mate got EQ2 so joined him then moved to wow, before tho played swg and that was good aswell. So would be 11 be up my street? now that its a few years old is there still a big comunity?

OK, I start the game and all I get is a black screen. Then a small menu comes up saying 'Start New Game' or 'Continue?' I start a new game and then the screen just goes black.

Any ideas?

No that's a total lie. ROMs are illegal unless you've ripped them yourself (and I'm not completely sure they are legal even in that case).

Fortunately the epsxe emulator actually allows you to play the games from the original disk in your dvd drive. Works really well.

Yeah but I think you still need a ROM of the PS1's BIOS chip. Meaning it's still illegal.

Whoops. i just downloaded a already setup version of epsxe from my newsgroup server, it appears to have the rom already installed.

/deletes.

Tis a shame really, i own a PSX (albeit broken) and loads of games but i'm not allowed to emulate them? Guess its time to buy another PS2 (also broken)

well im know nothing about the legality about the ROMS at all so I'm not going to go in to it. Well I got ePSXe and tryed running it, but no luck comes up with and error and crashes (using vista) however I do now have a working Emulator which is called PSX Emulator 1.11 very original but it works a treat.

So very happy with it running FF7 and getting to play it again.

Has anyone got epsxe working on vista? and did they have any problems with it, what setting up did it need if any other than the ROM?

I love this game. Probably my favourite (ps1) game of all time.

So try to play it, it is worth it. The countless hours I put into making that golden chocobo and doing all the other fun stuff you can do in ff7 was great.

I had loads of problems, thats why i downloaded a pre-configured epsxe emulator from my newsgroup server, however as mentioned, having the psx rom is naughty so it's impossible to get it running legally.

FFVII was awesome, only final fantasy i completed '100%'. Got every materia and defeated every weapon.
