Final Fantasy XI

When I get paid on Friday I might just jump on. :D I'll let you know.

I miss being a Summoner too. That was always a lot of fun. :)

Cool, well if you do go on Leviathan server then send a tell to Simmz.

To be fair you could start a whm level to 30 in about 4 hours, get subjob quest and Summoner then my link shell could help you get all the summons. :)

I completely agree, though I played XI back when it was first released and part of the fun was getting a party and grinding out the mobs for hours. Crawlers Nest, Kazham etc bring back great memories, but Goblin Bombs  :D

And the level 75 idiot training all the bats up from the lower level of garlaige citadel

nostalgia'd.

i dunno if im just a masochist but i kinda prefered how ffxi was, lvling up in a few days in just meh now and chains of promathia was awesome when it was hard, most of my groups pulled together to finish the missions even though it took all night, real team spirit. , i had quit previously after 3 years constant play but coming back shortly before abyssea release, too much changed and it no longer felt like the same game, so i quit again. plus lottery and timed spawn notorious monsters were awesome! (no sarcasm intended) even camping hoo mjuu the torrent against the gil sellers was a rush! damn monster signa!!

Downloading now. :) Feel like a bit of nostalgia. Going to get PLD like I did back in the day.

Gonna have to start reading up and remembering where to get stuff and how to get the subjobs, lol. Is it any easier to get gil these days as it was frankly ridiculous trying to make any money before?

Hi Gackt,

Glad to see you are going to make a return to the game :)

Remember to start on the Leviathan server and I can get you into a linkshell that has around 30 people in it and a good chunk are from the UK.

Gil is fairly easy to get once you can get into the Abyssea. Can easily make 300k an hour. Thing is in the early levels you really won't need much cash.

Levels 1-30 will be in the noob gear so no need to buy stuff other than spells and maybe an updated weapon (worth getting the leather armour, or chainmail at level 10 and it is cheap as vendor sold).

But yeah 1-15 you will solo. Just go into wild and get field manual quest. Will take you about an hour or or 2 to hit 15. After 15 head to gusgen mines and join people there. Usually some sort of alliance going on. Will then level you to 30 in about 3 hours and you should get a magical skull for subjob quest. After that get the other 2 items from the dunes and complete sub job quest.

Next thing would be to hit Jeuno do the chocobo quest and unlock your paladin if that is what you want to play. No need to unlock subjob at 18 or keep your subjob half the level straight away these days.

Then take Paladin to 60 and get your artifact armour.

Can easily do all of that within a week that's how fast it is :)

Crazy I know, but drop me a tell when in game on Leviathan server. Character Simmz

Thats sounds mental gettin to 60 and AF gear in a week. Would have taken 10 times that back in the day!

On the subject or gear I remeber having Seers gear for ages on my BLM/WHM, and the first time I bought a Dark Staff :D

Sounds great! :D What level is the Abyssea? Or is that purely endgame stuff?

I'm trying to update but I keep getting network errors, and POL-0019 errors when logging in. Hopefully I'll be able to sort it out and get on soonish, and then I'll send you a /whisper. :D

{Download} {Can I have it?} :(

Updating seems to be going a lot quicker today. Hopefully I'll be able to pop on for a few hours today. :)

Getting wet just thinking about it. :o

Is XIV still free :D

Only for another couple of weeks till patch 1.20 comes out then it will go paid. Just logged on again last night and its pretty awesome now, had a long read through all the plans they have over the next 12-18 months and what they have planned.

They literally are remaking the game and changing to a different engine. Version 2.0 due late next year with console release early 2013.

It will be a completely different game pretty much.

I'd be tempted to have a jab on XI again but XIV is now in a playable state for me.

What sorts of changes, if you don't mind, have they made that have significantly improved it since launch? I'm sort of wanting to wait until the new engine and such is released before I have another stint, possibly sometime before it next year.

I'm on! :D My char name is Penumbra.

What sorts of changesQUOTE]

Seriously too many to even list. Check the official forums theres a section with posts from the lead dev with all the changes and loads of info on planned changes up coming.

It's certainly playable now and apparantly can get a class to 50 in a week or 2 then start with the end game stuff. More content being added all the time also.

I'm downloading it now. Was a nightmare trying yesterday at about 4kB/s lol. :/ Remind me to never uninstall FFXIV again. :S

Haha, yeah the downloader is pretty sketchy. Luckily I had a couple of the older patches on DVD so only took an hour to update the rest.

If you start a new char me and a friend are on Selbina (seems to be a more populated server and I couldn't resist for nostalia's sake :p).

Patch 1.2 is due in next couple of weeks which should bring many more changes mainly to the class system, the player search for finding groups and the auction system will be like in XI.

There is a materia system now too :D

Oh god, I remember being the FFXIV beta... are they still using that abysmal p2p downloader/patcher? I remember having to seperately torrent all the install files because it was so slow and had no option of capping the upload speed so it just consumed your whole net connection :(

Alright. I will add you tonight if you will be around ?

I tried getting back into this. First SE said I had never had an account  annoyed me vastly but I thought **** it, it's f2p I'll buy a cheap copy (£4) and have anew code etc.

For a week the patcher wouldn't work so I couldn't even get the game in a playable state. Sacked it of for good now, I was a big defendr of the game but to be fair it's a ******* joke, not even any euro based servers

The downloader is naff I'll give you that but FF MMO's have never had region based servers as all players play on the same servers (NA, EU and JAP).

I have a 95 DNC, SAM, THF, NIN and working on WHM and BLM for my alt character for dual boxing.

I think FFXI is one of the best MMO's ever made IMO. Yes it has problems, but every MMO has problems. However FFXI has always done its own thing regardless of the competition, and thats what makes it so unique among a market of boring clones.

The game right now has changed considerably from what it used to be back in the JP import days. The release of Abyssea and the newer Ground Tomes pages has made levelling rediculously easy, which to be fair, had to be done because the game is gradually losing subscribers (been out for so long.) Now the focus of the game is mostly Abyssea and the newer Void Watch mobs for the increased level cap content.

Like most MMO's, FFXI is all about having friends with the same interests to play with. I've started FFXI on 4 different occasions, during the JP release of Rise of the Zilart. The US PC release, the EU release and again almost 2 years ago when myself and some friends decided to re-open our old accounts which we're still playing now on and off.

We've had an awesome time playing again- done all the expansions, dyna, Abyssea AF3 gear, magians etc. I've also raised my own blue chocobo, levelled multiple jobs and just had a laugh.

Right now we're having a little break, probably waiting until the 99 cap hits. We'll be playing SWTOR til then as we've done most of the content and everything inbetween.

Overall I recommend FFXI to anyone interested in playing it. I do STRONGLY suggest starting with friends or finding a good linkshell because its not a game for soloing (even though its considerably easier to do now.) Also do a google search for the regfile background resolution tweak. It makes the game look considerably better.

Have fun :)
