Final Spec Thread!

According to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator 600W should just about be enough for 2 5870s and a no - mild OC on a quad Phenom. But at that price, it's not like you can pick up a decent 750 watter for less than £30 more.

Now is a odd time to build a new rig. What with the new ati cards due and the new AMD cpus coming.

Having read the article posted above about the new cpus, i am a lil surprised. However if you can't wait it may pay to get a cheap mobo now and a 955 (up multiplier by 1 to make it a 965). When the new mobos are released you can upgrade the mobo but still use your current cpu, then upgrade the cpu if u feel the need.

Good luck with the build which ever way you go

If everybody always looked at what is coming out in the future, then nobody would ever buy anything...

But it is upto the OP, you can wait, or you can buy.

im in the same boat m8, my heads melted. i dont know wot to go for. i want my new rig to last me at least 2/3 years before i go for another overhaul.

if any1 can help me also, post your suggestions threads called "in anticipation of MOH! wot you think?"

Some one in the MM is selling this PSU.

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Would that be enough to power the Xfire Amd System?
The HX 620W only has 50A & just 2 PCI-E 6-pin connectors

A second card requires you to add another 188 Watts. You need a 700+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 55~60 Amps available on the +12 volt rails.

Oops didnt see it was a pair of 5870 cards . I have a spare psu that would do it but dont have the post count to use MM yet.

Have to keep looking for a hx750 (or the equivelant) second hand. I paid £75 for mine second hand. :)

Soooo, ordered all the bits monday for the AMD build, arrived yesterday so I built it.

Last comp I built was about 8 years ago, so, took my time, read some manuals and did it! Few dodgy moments with the Titan Heatsink and fan (putting wrong nuts on first and then having the heatsink the wrong way round so having to remove it all again) but it eventually went very smoothly! I went for the OCZ 700w Modular psu because it was cheap, its nice, but the cables are really short. No where near long enough to route round the back of the MB, so I think I'll get some extensions at some point to make it neater.

All booted up first time and installed windows without a hitch. Thought I'd do some OC straight away to see what the chip can do. Clocked to 3.8 on stock volts, didn't go above 48c, pushed to 4 on stock and it ran prime for 40mins before it crashed so upped the volts and its now stable on 4.0 and gets no hotter than 52.

Does that sound ok? Have no internet at my house at the moment so can't actually do much with it!

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciated.
