Just wanted to check I haven't missed anything glaringly obvious / selected stuff that is known to have problems, please. About to order now so swifty replies would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looks good. You might consider replacing that disk with the 250 GB Seagate 7200.10 since it's faster and only marginally more expensive.

You should also be aware that in some instances those Thermalright heatsinks require lapping to get them flat. If that doesn't sound like fun you might want to look at getting a Tuniq Tower instead. :)

Thanks Billy

I was under the impression that the Seagate 7200.10 was quite loud from the guys over at SPCR...they recommended the WD i selected instead. I don't suppose you've had any experience with the WD? If it makes any difference I intend to suspend the drive with elastics.

I have no idea what lapping is - does that mean I'll have to sand it down or something?

While I've got you though, I've just noticed the BFG GTS OC is on offer this week cheaper than the Asus standard GTS. Do you think that will be more worthwhile or should I just stick with the GT and OC that?

I've used both disks and I couldn't tell the difference in noise. YMMV I suppose. :)

Lapping is essentially just that, sanding/grinding the surface to achieve a flatter surface. Check out the Overclocking forum for a couple of threads about lapping.

The BFG OC is a pretty good deal right now. I wouldn't hesitate to get it for the price.

gotcha

I'll go with the BFG then should be better on that TFT anyway with the higher resolutions.

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the swift replies.

um actually you know what else I just realised...the 8800GTS is a PCI-E2.0 card and the P5K-E is a PCI-E1.0 motherboard.

Is this going to work?

Okay u are scaring me now. I have just ordered:

Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

With an 8800GTX, is this mobo no good? no1 picked up on this in my thread. I could have got an abit pro for less but was under impression that this was a better motherboard from some other thread i read?

Will my board not support the new 9800 cards properly? do i need to send it back n get a replacement tomorrow when it arrives?

No mate, the GTX is a PCI-E 1.0 card. I was talking about the GTS which is a PCI-E 2.0 card.

Does anyone know if this is ok??

aye didnt mean to hyjack ** thread mate, the problem is the GTX is meant to be a stopgap until the 9800 cards come out i was then gonna sell it and upgrade the card :|

Hope someone can answer ** question for u soon mate, i just dont know myself sorry.

PCI-e 2.0 is both backward and forward compatible, so new cards work on older 'boards and older cards work with newer 'boards. It is relatively new so you're probably going to have to get an Intel X38-based motherboard. Don't worry about it.

Just got all the stuff delivered but reading up on the 9800GX2 thread I'm wondering if it's not worth returning the 8800GT and opting for a GTS instead since I'll probably have it for a lot longer now since the 9800GX2 doesn't seem to be very good. (specs probably wont change this close to release).

I can't speak to OcUK now since they're closed but has anyone had any experience with returning unopened products in exchange for another? How easy is it?

Btw Billy - you kept recommending that Seagate 7200.10 that I actually opted for it instead of the WD2500AAKS. I hope you're right about it :)
