Not due out for a while yet, but sounds awesome, no soloing except crafting, death penalty, no instancing, no mini maps or hand holding. I'm sick of being able to solo to level cap in mmorpgs, ruined the genre for me, going into dungeons for 5 mins no one speaks and is gone, never to be seen again once the dungeon ends, boring. If Saga of Lucimia delivers, could be epic!

Could be interesting, just depends on the group requirement. 8 is a large number, can a group of 3 get things done? Even in Everquest 1 which was very group orientated, there were things smal groups could do.

A game like this would never hit the big time, but there is definitely a niche market for players who hate the excessively casual aspect of modern MMOs.

This , no matter what developers intend these days people always find a way round to ruin things for other players

How so? In 20 years of gaming I can't think of one example in which other players ruined my experience. At worst, certain players find cheats/exploits but that's inevitable and it's the job of the developer to find fixes so it's their fault if the solutions are not implemented, not the players'..

Looks like overland zones will be balenced for 3-4 people while the dungeons will need 8.

The only way this will fail is if the developers dont stick to their original vision and start adding a lot of solo content if the game doesnt do as well as they hoped and start bowing to a vocal minority. The game looks pretty bland and generic if not for the hardcore old skool group aspect so if they take that away they will probably lose more players than they gain.

Players ruin games all the time - look at the massive amount of kids on WoW for example. Then having to put your life on hold to get dungeon runs on it.

I'm not sure forcing groups on everyone is the way to go though. Sometimes you can't fit your life around your friends or guild or you may just want to spend 30 minutes killing things.

Only when people have this kind of attitude and allow it to happen!

Never sure about classless games think that's one of the things needed for a social bit as well,

I've given up hoping for a new MMO that will actually be like they announced it to be.

All the latest ones start good in beta then get 'westernized' and it just ruins it with cash shops and p2w.

So you've never been team killed repetitively , or ended up arguing with your team because there playing for themselves ? Or as you said cheats , how is that not the players fault ? I've never understood what enjoyment cheaters get by coming into a game and ruining the experience for everyone else , rage quitters also ruin the experience as they can make it unfair for a team ... Take it you've never played sc2 either ? My games have been ruined countless times by people on that ... this could be because I tend to only play competitive multi players though ? So you notice these people a lot more

Think maybe the problem is maybe a bit with you, I've played MMO's for about 20 years now, and while cheats are annoying, and I fully agree with your comments there, the rest has never being a real issue for me, yes I have had slight runs in with those types, but never in a way that it ruins my gaming time.

As to this game it would be great if they stuck to the grouping, and not go smaller than 5, those who would prefer not to be forced to be grouped, there a ton of other games for you.

The forum warriors. Many a game is killed because they have an idea then cave to the whining of 'oh death penalty is too hard. It sucks not being able to solo to max, XYZ sucks, this should be added...' and before you know it a game has changed from what it set out to be into what they think the masses want (and sadly, it is what the masses want, but the fanbase who were interested get screwed).
Rather than these people accepting that a game is not for them they insist on moaning to get changes made.

To be fair I've not played many mmos, always fancied getting into one but find myself playing something else instead, seems like the people who ruin the games I play (granted it's not that often really) don't tend to play these types of games ?? Might have to keep an eye on this as I'm all for the group aspects being part of it :) ... only thing is there's not enough time I the day to play the games I have now :( let alone an mmo !

Pretty much guarantee any death penalty will get nerfed or removed before too long unless they come up with some really interested implementation for it - its a great novelty but the reality is for most people it just becomes needlessly tedious after the first 1-2 times and turns into meaningless grind - that even includes most hardcore gamers.

I do miss City of Heroes for its team/social aspect, the game made it much more interesting to play through it in groups than solo through it though some of the more interesting bits were limited to a minimum teamsize i.e. task forces.

I was never a fan of corpse collecting death penalty i admit but ill deal with it. I always liked ffxis death penalty, lose 10% of exp needed to next level, also able to level down, if someone raises you, you gain a % of that xp back depending on raise tier and are weakened for 5 mins to the point you cant do anything! If no one around to raise you had to go back to your home point which were pretty sparse and could be miles away!

I agree with this, death penalty is maybe not a very good idea anymore, I think the biggest thing that has gone wrong with MMO's in the last 6/8 years is they not social anymore.

Bring in group content that does more that just give XP for the quest, make being part of a guild meaningful, the last real social game I played was LotRo, while it was never the biggest and most loved MMO it attracted a very social group, and the game lasted years beyond its time with because of this.

I quite like Asherons Call death penalty. Your skills are reduced by 5% (up to a maximum of 40% and you then have to kill lower level monsters) and you drop some random items (you can get mods or death items to negate this).

Makes you want to stay alive more and run off rather than just die and continue on as normal - in the 10+ years I've played Asherons Call I think I've dies <90 times.

That makes way more sense, Lotro used to have a dread penalty if I 'm remembering right, while not harsh could be a bloody pain!
