Finally a new group based mmorpg, saga of lucimia

Think maybe the problem is maybe a bit with you, I've played MMO's for about 20 years now, and while cheats are annoying, and I fully agree with your comments there, the rest has never being a real issue for me, yes I have had slight runs in with those types, but never in a way that it ruins my gaming time.

As to this game it would be great if they stuck to the grouping, and not go smaller than 5, those who would prefer not to be forced to be grouped, there a ton of other games for you.

MMOs though, they are clearly incredibly hard to hack due to most things being completely server side and completely online. There are a lot of multiplayer games on engines which support single player which people can exploit. You can say it's the developers fault, which in part it is but to rule out the hackers and cheaters and saying nothing is their fault is abit extreme. Blizzard, Trion, NCSOFT, Nexon etc. are not development gods, far from it if anything. Making a game like H1Z1 or something hack proof is 1,000x harder than an actual MMO.

That being said though I've yet to see anyone hack ARK, but you still get the sad tiny penis boys flying around on Argentavis grabbing and dropping anyone who isn't carring a firearm for 't3h lolz' cus they are so cool and edgy yo.

One death penalty I did hate was Dark Age of Camelots. Loosing XP drives you crazy. I found with DAoC, as you couldn't really run off (this was on release - it may have changed since then) if you made a poor pull you were dead and then you'd loose XP and basically be doing the same thing over and over again.

Very frustrating.

IMO hardcore penalties should be risk/reward balanced i.e. purely as an example you can say train a skill to say levels 1-5 without a penalty but train to level 6 and you get a "mastery" bonus in that skill but if you die it drops back to level 0 again. Could also mix it up to encourage teamplay - i.e. if you are resurrected by a team member then it only drops 1-2 levels instead of dropping all levels.

Having a straight up XP penalty for dying is unimaginative and boring these days.

Just had a watch of that video, looks very basic, but that may not be a bad thing tbh, its not so much about the flash as about the social fun, that's what will keep players in.

Yep, I feel there's only a select few of us that actually want a challenge, and without the normies I can't see this lasting.

I'm not so sure about this, as long as hard does not equal long and then boring it should be OK, if they get the game social and fun, the rest will work it self out.

F2P and P2W, cash shops killed MMOs for me.

I would sooner pay £15-20 a month for a MMO in any way shape or form.

I remember getting a ridiculous amount of group XP debt in the early days of EQ2, due to numpties (usually my friends) dying over and over again trying to retrieve their shards :D

I like the sound of this but sometimes having solo stuff isn't a precursor to the game being 'carebear' or anything. I fondly remember just driving off in my X-34 landspeeder in SWG, shooting womp rats and trying to run Imperials over.

Miss you SWG :(

Welcome back to the days of group-based content. Zero solo quests, 8-man groups, multi-group raids, and emergent gameplay.
I don't PUG and so can only do anything when enough friends are playing and we want to do the same thing... an absolute non-starter of a game for me!

pugs used to be awesome in group based games.

people got black listed if they were crap, good players quickly gained a reputation and had no issues getting a group.

EQ I used to get tells that I had a corpse somewhere because I was fearless; if I died.....usually fighting something I shouldn't be; exploring somewhere I told I couldn't go etc. How I ended up tanking so well with my Paladin.
My usual answer back was; Only 1? :D
I still remember dinging the same level 5 times in the same day because of damn trains and I refusing to run so my group could escape.

Skyforge has bit of city of heroes feel to it so that's one to watch. I do miss EQ social aspect; hell I remember sitting around for just hours chilling with people or getting a massive tells asking me to group as I used to group with everyone as long as they pulled their weight :D

I am all for death penalty, however, xp or stats is not the way I would do it. Xp loss is just frustrating, also this does nothing to help the social aspect of the game.
EQ1 naked corpse runs would be the way I would have it done - like meldarthx I remember many a time helping friends and strangers retrieve their corpses. It really encouraged team play - people helped because they knew it could one day be them in trouble.

I even remember once my Guild wiped in Plane of Fear when attempting our first raid. I sent a tell to a stranger I had grouped with a few times in the past and become friends with to plea for help....moments later a team 30 men strong came strolling in and cleaned up the zone entry area (Plane of Fear was notorious for its crazy long aggro mechanics) and stood guard while we all got our bodies back.

Fun times :)

LOL god I remember the amount of times of watching my raid wipe in Fear and Hate; I'd be one of the last standing with maybe a healer and enchanter; just us three holding the mobs back long enough to allow certain people to drag bodies back to recover.

one of my favorite ones - on a raid in fear I was still babish paladin at the time like lever 49 or 50 *level cap was 65 maybe* and we'd wiped - got the bodies back and sent everyone out but a few hold. I told guild leader *who was also healing me at the time to port out with her special item I'd make it out somehow* She was about to; but ended up watching me slowly; I mean ever so slowly work my way to zone out in fear. She was like you're so going to do....I was like no faith me; I know what I'm doing lol.

She ended up staying along with a baby chanter like level 47 and so much faster lol. Before I was using almost all my mana to stun and heal. I'd move forward a little and then med for mana; rinse and repeat.

Those were good times; and so challenging. Hell I was main tank for lots of raids in Hate as all the damn warriors were parked in fear for their epic LOL

Looks interesting. I kinda burned out of MMO's after 4 years of Shaiya and Aion so not sure if I'll bite. But something to keep an eye on alright!

Lol, I used to love the mobs on Daoc, they would quite literally chase you from one end of a zone to another once you pulled them. Sure taught you to be careful about pulling and wandering about without paying attention :)

maybe all mmos should have a cookie clicker class for all the idiots who can't learn a games mechanics.

I remember when mobs were linked by mechanics such as sight or magic dmg.

like you would pull a grub if another grub saw it they would also come, or if you used a magic attack within a radius of say bats which are normally passive they would all come and attack.

mmos got boring as hell once they got dumbed down.

I used to like the danger when exploring a zone knowing you could die if XXX mob was chasing you.

it's boring in games where you can basically press auto run and afk across the map, so they brought in teleports.....

killed the mmo feeling because you only ever saw people around hubs

I say Boycott mob leashes!!
You accidently pull more than you can handle then run like hell to a zone or plead for help!!
'Choo! Choo! Train to zone!!!'
The glorious days of running and constantly jumping as you did because it helped you go that little faster to stay ahead of the mob!
