Finally, a real comparison

How did you get into my house? :p

I hope Sony have got it right with putting the power source INSIDE the console, maybe next gen consoles need to have the power beast on the outside, time will tell and Mk II or Mk III might have a similiar power source on the outside.

See, this is the interesting point for me. I'd much rather have a seperate power block anyway for several reasons:
1) It's easy to replace if it blows rather than shelling out for it to be repaired and have it's warrenty kept in tact.
2) It makes the console smaller. Size isn't a big part, but smaller is better.
3) It makes the console lighter. I use glass shelves infront of the TV and they are already heavily loaded with Sky, DVD player, Amplifier and Xbox360 (with it's PSU on the floor behind the stand). Although not a huge difference I'm sure, weight it weight. I also move my consoles around a LOT and take them around my friends house. I've read several reports that you won't be lifting the PS3 up with 1 hand (something I can do with the Xbox360 and PSU). It must be very heavy.
4) It doesn't create added heat inside the console, something thats happened many times with my PC's in the past, it also caused problems with my Dreamcast. I'd rather disperse the heat away from my console.

There are no real advantages to be found in having the PSU built in.

Yeap some folk do preffer the seperate PSU
1. if it blows under warranty its all covered anyway no??
2. think its only adding depth though?
3. I have glass shelves too and am not worried in the slightest about the slight extra weight, at one point i had my 360 power brick on my shelf with the console.
3a Lugging around the same weight. when you take a PS3 and xbox 360 + brick then iirc its all the same weight, but if you forget your power lead when its built in, all you need is a kettle lead.
4. If its all built right then it shouldnt create extra heat, look a snipergecko's mod for the 360, a lack of a slight bit of plastic added more heat than a PSU would.

I honestly dont care either way weather or not its all built in, maybe the japanese prefer it that way i dont know . All i am saying though is i would like to see the size if you add in the power brick.
My main complaint i have about the extra power brick is MS decided to use a bespoke power adaptor into the wall rather than a kettle connection. And if i want to regualrly use my console in a couple of locations i could have a kettle lead in each room all plugged in, and i can have as long a kettle connection as i want. Although i do think you told me before MS will send you another power brick.

all the same the less things that can go wrong the better remember when sony had to recall the ps2 slimline power bricks, if they inculded it in the console then how much more money would they lose?

Yeap but that would be sony's problem, i dont really care how much they would lose :p

What you do though is add another point of failure with an external brick.
Least is something breaks and its all contained then take it back and away you go.
My biggest fear is if the PS3 breaks and there is no way to keep that hard drive from it :( at least with the 360 you can always fiddle it and either beg to keep it or buy another HDD and send that with it. But with the PS3 you need to remember to back up regualrly :(

No you don't? It's exactly the same with how likely it's to fail whether it's internal or external. It's much easier to ship off a PSU than a console though (and cheaper).

heeheee I guess Sony are so annoyed about the bad rep the console is getting for its size, they made the game boxes smaller :p

nice one sony "lets annoy people even more, we will make the case for the games 1cm smaller than the stanard dvd case so people cant put them in DVD racks or easitly replace a damaged case with dvd case" idiots

Exactly. Why on earth would they change the size of the cases?

the psu shouldnt fail anyway. havent heard of many ps2 PSU's, and considering that if it fails within 12 months you'll be taking it back to the store anyway...

Why would they make them smaller, Sony trying to change the standard

"oh look a blu ray box, its smaller than a dvd box SO it must be better"

So you need a rack for you PS1/2 games and one for your PS3 games

I thought the Blu ray disc was the same size as a standard dvd/cd

Although i dont see the point in changing the size myself, i dont see how many folk would need a new DVD rack to hold them? usually the racks have a full legth bar/bit of wood on the slot?
My only bother is on my shelves with all my DVD's i am gonna have a bit where the blu-ray buggers it up. I am a bit anal and have TV shows together, stand up together and stuff :D

Couldn't agree more, but luckily we can in the UK, a lot of 360 owners on here will testify to that, and thats with an external power brick :p
Not meaning to sound fanboyish there btw

exactly the point where we get used to taking things back after using them twice is where technology reaches a new low, we shouldnt have to get used to rebooting consoles or games that have to be patched 1 year in
As long as they dont change width of cases i have no issue

Yeap i know its becoming to PC esque in the console gaming :(

Aparently they are the same except for the slight chop at the top, but HD-DVD cases add a silly lip I know its the inquirer but...
