Off out this morning with swmbo and driving along this straight bit and 206 coming toward me with indicator on to turn right into Farm Shop and VW behind him must have looked at his phone and looked up to see this car stopped - front went down and bump - clouted back of this 206 enough to I think write it off - good bit of rear end damage-

Felt sorry for poor lad driving so turned round and gave him my phone number if he required film footage - the other guy said he won't need it I hold up my hands.

The lads hannds were trembling like a jelly trying to put my number in his phone - silly me thought he would write it down on bit of paper - I am a bit behind times.

Just got to work out now how to extract the footage and save it to file.

Don't anyone even think of asking for video of it as I have no idea how to do it.

Your going to post this with a title like that and not upload the video?

Just an idea but you could maybe ask for advice on how to get the footage from your cam to the interwebs.

I personally thought shunt was a euphanism to bypass the swear filter :D

You are obviously under 30 years of age - Shunt is a old fashioned word.

I feel justified in buying car cams now I have recorded a shunt.

I am having major headache problems working out how to go about installing CCTV at moment - well not installing it but working out the IP bits- never mind posting a video on net.:rolleyes:

Why? You said yourself the footage wasn't even needed.

We all managed pretty well before people turned their cars into mobile surveillance vans.

I hate dashcams and don't have one myself, but you can't argue that there aren't many occasions when they'd be really useful. Pretty much any accident on a roundabout or one where two cars clip each other on a narrow road ends up going 50/50, if you pay £20 for a dash cam it would clear up all doubt.

How many of those have you ever been involved in?

We don't live in Russia, most of us will go a decade without even witnessing an accident let alone being involved in one and only a small proportion of those you would be unfortunate enough to get into would go against you were it not for the fact you record your every move.

I had an incident where my car was crashed into whilst parked up, caused around £1k damage. If I'd had a dash cam it would have activated and I'd have stood a good chance of getting the reg.

As I said, I don't have one - I don't like them and I particularly dislike the type of drivers who have one. But they're so cheap now that I can totally understand the appeal for most people.

Well thank you, I'm well over 30 so know exactly what a shunt is :D

I've got a dash cam nicely wired into my car. To me, it's a install and forget jobby, I'm certainly not one to post any footage on youtube (can't see the point really). To me, it might help me out if I'm ever in an accident, not for other peoples amusement.

Do people drive differently to your disliking just because they have a camera then? Have you seen how these same people drive with and without the camera attached? Strange statement to make!

We also managed well until people realised they could get compensation by getting rear ended on purpose
