Finally got Downsampling to work on my AMD card!

The CRU thing never worked for me. I would always get signal out of range but that Guru 3d method that I posted worked fine and everything definatly looks so much sharper. Reguarding the blurry text ... In game it looks very sharp to me and I wouldn't use 1440p on my desktop anyway as I much prefere the 144hz for desktop stuff.

Iv'e just tried @1440P and it looks ok I guess. I tested a couple of games and they did seem somewhat shaper but nothing overly impressive. I couldn't get used to the desktop though. The text wasn't as sharp and i'm used to 120Hz so moving windows scrolling through the internet and general use wasn't smooth as I like it. Think id prefer to keep it at 1080p and the 120Hz tbh and this is on a 27inch monitor.

For me with the CRU, I still use the 1920x1080 120Hz for desktop, but I can choose 2560x1440 at 85Hz when I am in games.

With a 144hz Monitor what do you think is the highest HZ I can get at 1440p res?
I have it set to 75 at the moment but im wondering what the highest is that will work on my BenQ 144hz monitor.

@Matson - you're a bloody legend mate! Thanks for the updated link. I tried this a few weeks ago following a forum on NeoGAF I think it was called and couldn't get it to work, because they didn't seem to have the first step of updating the monitor driver, or I missed it.

Yes it is blurry on the desktop, so I also just use 1080 on desktop but in my games set the res @ 1440 and it works just like my old 560Ti days...awesome!!!

It's really really good for older games that don't have SSAA, and just adds a bit more peripheral vision and slightly less aliasing etc in newer games.

Your welcome... I tried it myself too using that but always got signal out of range but gave up in the end but the modded monitor driver made it work like a charm and im using it in every game now and it looks great. No need to use any aa also.
Running it at 1530p in crysis 3 looks stunning and runs better since I don't need to add any aa.
Like you I just use 1080p @144hz on desktop and 1530p @75hz in games.

You should try cranking it up to 1530p. Didn't effect frame rate much and looks a little better aswell..
Saints row 4 actually feels like a different game compared to when I played it. I don't ever remember it looking as good as it does at that res anyway.

Eeeerrrrggghhhh, Saints Row, what a waste of awesome downsampling! :p Crysis on the other hand is all good! Will give it a go at 1530p...you tried any higher res? Although I only have a 1080 monitor so even 1530 might be pushing it...

I haven't tried a higher res since he only gave the numbers for those 2 on that link I posted... I don't know the numbers for any different resolutions and don't want to mess anything up by guessing lol.
f I new what to change then id give it a try.
Since you can downsample in BF4 from 4k I don't see why that wouldn't work in other games if you can get the right numbers to add that.

For example...

1920x1080 @ 2720x1530

Width = A0 0A
Height = FA 05
HTotal = 20 08
HSyncStart = 30
HSyncWidth = 20
VTotal = 57 04
VDisplay = 38 04
VSyncWidth = 05
PixelClock = E0 22 02

that's the numbers for 1530p....but how do we work out the numbers for a higher res...

Nevermind I found them....

Not taking anything away from Matson, but it's way, way easier with CRU:

Run CRU as administrator, allow it through smart screen if need be(W8)

1. Untick 'Include extension block'

2. Click 'Add'

3. Input Horizontal

4. Input Vertical

5. Optional if you have a 120Hz/+ panel, Input Refresh rate.

6. Press OK, and restart PC.

It's that simple.

Download CRU here:

Is it the same thing though? I remember trying this ages ago and could never get it to work.. That could have been because my monitor driver wasn't modded though.

Same thing, no monitor driver modding needed, the steps I put up, that's it, nothing else needed.

You can leave the desktop@1080p, select 1440p in game and away you go.

Crysis 3 screenshot on max everything@1440p:

How about 4k? have you tried that and had any issues?
I have 1440p working already through the other method but im curious to try 4k res aswell.

This is much easyier.

On my Iiyama Prolite GB2773HS-GB1 144Hz 27"
I managed to get 2560x1440 with 80Hz. does look sharper for sure, but i get to much tearing, which is a shame.

At normal 1080p 144hz with mantle on, I turned supersampling (Mantle helps loads with supersampling) on via CCC, still looks good enough with no Tearing.
but 1440p would have been nice if i didn't get tearing.

I've tried CRU a few times in my desperation to get it to work on my AMD cards and couldn't, only the regedit works for me. But not sure if I tried that step 'untick extension block. @Matson I looked on that German forum and tried other res, but (as they found as well) nothing over 1530p works - at least on a 1080p monitor.

I just tried 4k with CRU... and it worked... at 30hz anyway. Anything higher and it wont show up. IM using a 144hz BenQ monitor and it worked great in bioshock... looks amazing but of course its not really that fun to actually play it at 30hz.

What would happen if you set 1440p at a hz that it wouldn't accept because when I tried it with 120hz it worked...didn't think it would but I was still able to run that res @120hz
