With my faith in the PS3 renewed by the excellent Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I thought I'd give another of the PS3's flagship titles a go, and got hold of Heavenly Sword yesterday.

I've played it for a few hours now, getting through the first couple of chapters, and tbh it seems rather poor. Maybe it's because I'm coming straight from such a good game in Uncharted, but it all seems rather run of the mill, despite looking very nice.

At one point I awoke from what must have been a bit of a day dream, but I'd still managed to wipe out all of the baddies on the screen.

Does the game improve a bit further in, or are the first two chapters fairly indicative of the rest of the game?

I felt exactly the same, it's just boring, repetative and doesn't bring anything new to the genre at all bar Six-Axis shooting (which is clearly only in there to justify Sony's decision to go Six-Axis over Rumble).

The annoying thing is that God of War is 2 years older than Heavenly Sword and still does every single thing a million miles better.

God of War (I & II) is/are superb.

I think that may be part of the problem in that the God of War franchise has raised the bar so much.

Back to being a Blu-Ray player for the PS3 again it seems..

God of War has raised the bar very high, nothing comes close to it.

I really enjoyed Heavenly Sword though, it's no game of the year and it was overhyped like crazy, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

I can't finish it. I'm stuck at the end battle. Think I will play through again now I have the DS3 and put it on easy! LOL.

I liked it, it was no GOW (but then what is?), the story is good, the cut scenes are very well done, but its a bit to short and the enemies are very repetitive and some what dumb. I enjoyed Kai's shooting bits quite a lot, Narikos combo systems was well done, but i think you could just get through the game ( on easier levels) just by button mashing. If they improve the enemy AI and make them more varied, increase the length of the game and improve the QTE for the sequel i think they'll be on for a winner. Its a solid game if short a good rental IMO, but i bit of a let down in some respects, still worthy of play if thats your kinda game.

it was no gears of war?

yeah
thats like saying that tony hawks proving ground is no Halo 3

heavenly sword is a good game if a little ill concieved

it just needed something extra - like the uncharted/dmc *SPARK* that keeps you in your seat and makes you play it over and over

3 4 hours more gameplay would have done it for me tbh.

There was enough replay for me in doing the game in the harder mode and also re-doing the sixaxis bits to get highscores, but the core story/game could have done with maybe 4 more levelsish?
