Finally got round to playing Heavenly Sword..

I loved this game, one of the best on the PS3 easily. Not as good as God of War but still a cracking game

Whats worrying though is at the time for me the graphics were top notch, played it again recently and the graphics just looked standard to the times.

Things like that show how much graphics are moving forwards even if you dont notice it, its only when you play a previously graphically superb game that you notice

Heavenly Sword was one of the games that PS3 owners flocked to when they attempted to justify buying one back in the day. Now that the console actually has good games, they have no need to refer to flashy games with all graphical flair and zero substance anymore.

Heavenly sword is a good game. It may not be up there with Uncharted, but it's still a good game.

I'd call it the Bioshock of the PS3. All graphics and not much variation (Wows, I'm sure people will jump off cliffs after that statement)

It's not as good as DMC4 I'll say that for sure, But it's hardly terrible. Maybe it's another marmite game?

it was no gears of war?

yeah
thats like saying that tony hawks proving ground is no Halo 3

heavenly sword is a good game if a little ill concieved

it just needed something extra - like the uncharted/dmc *SPARK* that keeps you in your seat and makes you play it over and over

Sorry mate ( if you ment my reply) i wasnt talking bout gears i was talking bout God of War, hence GOW, some refer to gears as this but as god of war was first it gets to keep the GOW lol.

With my faith in the PS3 renewed by the excellent Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I thought I'd give another of the PS3's flagship titles a go, and got hold of Heavenly Sword yesterday.

I've played it for a few hours now, getting through the first couple of chapters, and tbh it seems rather poor. Maybe it's because I'm coming straight from such a good game in Uncharted, but it all seems rather run of the mill, despite looking very nice.

At one point I awoke from what must have been a bit of a day dream, but I'd still managed to wipe out all of the baddies on the screen.

Does the game improve a bit further in, or are the first two chapters fairly indicative of the rest of the game?

weird i found the very same to be true of Uncharted. Found it to be very repetitive and run of the mill.

And if you're thinking HS is too easy then stick stop playing it on easy :p

Superb fluid combat moves - sexeh lead character, charismatic enemy leader, Sublime cutscenes that are among the best you will see on a PS3 and combat vs 100s of opponents at the same time with little to no slowdown :)

edit: much better than DMC4 because DMC4 is just dmc1 + 2 plus spruced up graphics!! combat is better too.

Sounds like Resistance: Fall of Man :p.

i kept playing Uncharted hoping it would get better, or get different but noooo :( Cant believe people are going nuts over it. End boss is basically the same as every level in the game.. Wheres the variation?

Surprised you don't like it, whilst the gameplay wasn't in anyway revolutionary, it was basically a smooth, next-gen Tomb Raider, I thought the whole game was brought together with excellent cutscenes and some fantastic voice work which kept me entertained throughout.

I wouldn't say it's the best game released last year, perhaps not in the best 5, but it's definitely the best exclusive to the Playstation3. I thought a little more variation would have been nice and the fact it felt so repetative in such a short game was a disappointment.

I wouldn't say the last boss was the same as the rest there, if anything, he was too different, the real-time button sequence just seemed odd and out of place. I would have liked something epic.

Whilst playing Uncharted, I kept thinking about all of the hard work that must have gone into it. Questioning how they'd done certain things, or achieved certain effects etc. The DTS sound is a massive plus (over DD5.1 at least).

It's a hugely impressive game, though by no means perfect. First game, to me, that's shown the PS3 could have a very bright future indeed.

its not that i dont like it. Just that its a bit meh. Graphics are excellent, cutscenes really good, voices etc. Didnt like the story...didnt think it had any depth to it. It certainly wasnt EPIC.

However.... you reckon someone will make Indy on the ps3? If it is a bit similar to the good bits of Uncharted except with less repetition, more variation in locations and scenery, less scripted fights and has all the Indy charm then it could be a winner.

e.g. we could have lots of SUB scenes, ISLAND scenes, CITY areas but make it more like an adventure game where you have to figure stuff out...rather than a puzzle-jumping-fight game.

The greatest weakness of Uncharted to me was both the story AND something else... it didnt feel like an adventure didnt feel dynamic just lots of scripted sequences. Just dont feel there was depth to it. ZERO interaction with anyone. You couldnt talk to people just shoot at them...
It felt quite cramped... i dunno..

i quite liked the ending, and thought it was a decent game overall. Not the best of the genre, but was definitely a fun playthough. Everyone should at least try this though be it buy or rent.. the production values are through the roof, great looking game and some of the best cutscenes i've seen.

My only real problem with the game was the fps, which seems to dip quite a bit.. though it was still playable. That and the game was pretty short.. short but sweet i guess :)
