I didn't think so, Theres some backtracking, but it never got to the point where I lost interest.

does it still respawn the enemies each time you backtrack? ie each time you enter the area

No, not yet I'm skint. Played the previous 3 though. I'd say there is an element of repetativeness, yes, but DMC is undoubtedly very cool with its style and environments. I don't get that from Heavenly Sword.
