After coming here initially on an £800 budget ive been totally sucked in to the whole idea of experementing with diffrent builds and systems, researching hardware stress tests and asking a million and 1 questions that im glad to say got an answer everytime from you lovely people xd

I had planned on waiting till april to buy my new system, however my PSU died on me last night, i think it sensed its end and decided to kill itself to cause me greif lol :(

Ive tried my best with the little knoweledge i have to build a reallly nice, but not overly priced gaming system. I dont think its lacking anywhere, i guess a 150gb raptor might have been a nice addition but ive heard lots positive things about the spinpoints, especially with such a nice capacity.

Have i went desperetly wrong anywhere? Or anything i really should change?

Thanks in advance :)

Maybe tone the graphics card and the CPU down? 400 quid on a graphics card is a huuuge amount - guess it depends on how much you earn really tho! :p

Other than that, looks very nice :)

What credit crunch :p

AM3 mobo cannot take AM2+ chips because they lack DDR3 mem controller, therefore you need the PII X4 810 instead which has 2mb less L3 cache.

Tbh I'd just go for DDR2 with AM2+ mobo as it's cheaper and will take future AM3 upgrade as well.

What do you use your pc for to need 8gb of ram?

So if i want the 940, and ddr3, which motherboard can i buy?

As for needing the 8gig, realistically i probably wont, but new games have been known to crunch up to 6gigs, and i figured id rather have x4 2gig sticks.

Thank you very very much btw, i didnt know that, what a horrible disapointment that would have been lol

I had a look at it but the phenom II isnt there, so which am2+ mobo do you recomend? If i take an sli ready mobo, in a few years time will i be able to order a second powercolor x2 4870's and crossfire them?

Argh just when i thought id got everything sussed xD

Have to say with that cash spend, I'd sooner go the I7 route.

I7 6gb system + Nvidia 285 is about the same cost as the AMD, 8gb and the 4870x2. I dont like the idea of spending >£100 on a psu, but with a 750W one you have the option of a 2nd 285 later this year when they are about £175.

Hmm... I dont like the idea of a system using >500W peak power or costing >£1000 (not including monitor), but thats me.

The i7's put me off because of the lower clock speed, they are so expensive for 2.66 ghz. And while i agree with nearly everything your saying, ive read a lot about games being limited to a single card, so if i were ever to go down the i7 route, it would still be with the x2 4870's. But ideally a phenom II 940 with an amd2+ ddr2 mobo might prove significantly cheaper anyway.

But im stuck about which sli ready am2+ board to go

Unfortunately you can't crossfire 2 ati cards on sli mobo so it has to be crossfire compatible.

i7 still performs better according to benchmarks despite its slightly lower clockspeed plus it overclocks like monsters. Also i7 X58 mobos are the only ones that support both sli and crossfire so might be useful for you.

Mate you can easily overclock the 920 to 3.8 :>

And even the stock 920 @ 2.66 is still very very good for gaming I get 50fps easily on GTA IV all on high settings see specs in sig ;>

I guess im a completly uneducated as far as these things go but ill balls up and ask anyway, a lot of the new games coming out are asking for 2.8ghz on dual cores, with a quad core sitting at 2.66, isnt it going to fall short in clock speed?

And what sort of airspeed can the i7's clock to?
