Finally im done (i hope)

Depends on what dual-cores. Older generation dual core chips perform worse and thus need higher clockspeed to run modern games. The lastest generation dual/quad like Phenom II and i7 however doesn't need fast clockspeed to run the same game smoothely. In addition game producers usually over quote their spec requirements anyway to cover their bases so I wouldn't take it too seriously.

Nothing wrong with both Phenom II or i7, the only reason people are suggesting i7 is because you're prepared to spend well over £1000 anyway so might as well get the best there is.

thanks a lot man youve been such a help on 2 threads now :)

the only reason i was put off that ram was because of the reviews saying they had some troubles running 2 lots of them together, and i guess if i have 8 gig there really is little point buying the most expensive since i have so much it.

Unfortunately you can't crossfire 2 ati cards on sli mobo so it has to be crossfire compatible.

i7 still performs better according to benchmarks despite its slightly lower clockspeed plus it overclocks like monsters. Also i7 X58 mobos are the only ones that support both sli and crossfire so might be useful for you.

Can vouch for that, 4 cores or 8 with hyperthreading pretty useful in apps.
Easy o/c'd to 4GHz on stock cooler too - not bad for a £230 chip.

I7 over phenom anyday of the week, especially for the same budget, as fast as the AMD is, not in the same league as an I7 as an overall package.
High clocks are easily acheivable, listen to what people are saying they know there stuff.
I7 all the way, plus OCUK are doing a deal at the moment on a I7 bundle you would be silly to pass it up.

Hi.

2 pennies worth.

I agree get the I7. I don't agree with your spend on a 4870x2. Total rip off when you see how much a single one is.

Why not get a bog standard 4870 that should easily last till the next refresh and spend the extra elsewhere ;)

What res will you be playing at? 2nd monitor perhaps?

Well mainly because no matter your chip or your ram, even with ocing, it doesnt raise your fps more than 5 or 6, because its bottlenecked by a single card, having a second card can double your fps. ill be on a 24" 1920x1200

will post the i7 build in a sec xd

im not sure if the fan will fit my mobo / chip or not thoughm i couldnt find any lga1366 fans :(
also, is 650w enough on my psu?

and ive noticed the i7 bundle for 499, would it be worth me adding that in to my set up?

thanks :)

the 650 is a bit low i guess, but will it give me any problems? its like £40 saving before the 750 because its on offer this week and ill be orderinng 2night i guess.

If you are spending all that much on components anyway then why not just get the 750w?

Saves any doubt in your mind and is only another £40 at the end of the day

Another vote for the vanilla P6T. Great board - no need to spend £40 extra on the Deluxe.

Alrighty ill take the non deluxe board, but im still unsure about the 650 being powerfull enough. ive been trying to find any scrap of information on it but i cant. my mate is running a single 4870 on 650, but ive got x2 so im wondering if i need to go 750?
