Finally took the plunge and signed up for Nildram

well if it's a torrent, you can grab utorrent and enable encryption. that'll get round pipex throttling for the time being. you'd be daft to think pipex won't clamp down on this little 'workaround' soon...... bit off topic for this thread though.... :D

Thanks for the advice.

I'm pretty much resigned to a moving to another ISP with a capped service e.g. Nildram or Zen. At least if they're upfront about it you know what you're getting (unlike Pipex).

I have been pleased with them so far - they connected me earlier than quoted.
everything has worked from day 1

got MAX'd on Monday and this morning the full speed kicked in.

they are hoping to get LLU going sometime this year too

I can give you a bit of an update on this, in that Nildram do have plans to offer LLU services via the PIPEX exchanges. No dates yet I'm afraid, and no detail on the services we will be offering (other than being 2+), but it is on course for 2006.

Right guys, I have a couple of questions.

I can log into 'My Control' but not my email inbox. Should I be able to access my email at the very least? Am I using the right login: login@gotadsl.co.uk?

Lastly, the 50GB Peak Time usage, does that include both downloads and uploads, or is it just downloads?

Thanks

I switched from 1Meg wanadoo to new 2Meg Nildram 2 weeks ago, the ADSL service is far superior as is the Customer service. Well happy so far.

is your net working with them?

it is still possible that the user CP and email sections havent been setup/published yet i think they say 10-14 days for that.

As I said, I put in my migration a week ago, hopefully I should be moving over tomorrow or within the next couple of days. The process is 7-10 days.

Can someone explain this pipex throttling to me please? I use pipex and bittorent, are pipex delibarately cutting my speeds down?

Christ Im out of them then.. im paying £33 a month and I thought it was unlimited download speed? I think I might go for that Nildram broadband 2 option. Even though it has a 50gig limit, it looks good.

This is disgusting, none of my torrents will download much above 20k a sec now. Well thats it I'm defnitly away from them. What do I need to do to migrate to another isp?

you need to phone them to get your mac code. this is the number - 0845077 8324. then within 3days you'll get your mac code. from the minute you get it, you owe them 30 days payment (mandatory notice period). using your mac code with another provider could get you changed over in as little as a week but the 30 day notice to pipex still applies.

in the meantime, if you look at the post of mine which you quoted earlier - you can bypass this throttling by using utorrent with encrption on. you can grab utorrent from utorrent.com :D

if you have some torrents on the go already, it should easy enough to transfer them across and continue downloading from where you left off. :)

Thanks for the advice mate, cant say im happy about this at all.

Neither was I, I moved from Pipex to Nildram last week and I have no regrets at all. It's £8 a month cheaper, no capping with regards to bittorrents or limewire, I'm getting full speed with the 2Mb line and the service so far has been excellent. I have also not been disconnected once with Nildram, with Pipex it was usually 10-20 times a day during peak hours, sometimes more, irregardless of whether or not I was using a file sharing program. They also took out next months payment which was nice of them. I emailed them last Wednesday to state that I had cancelled my subscription with them and would only pay up to the '30' days after notifying them of my cancellation. I haven't received a reply yet. Pricks to be honest.

Cool so you got the £25 a month broadband 2 option from Nildram yeah?

I think I will go for this too. :)

Broadband 2 - for only £25.99

For Power users - with 5 e-mail accounts plus Anti-Spam & Anti-Virus.

Speed Price (inc vat) Fair Use Quota (peak hours)
Up to 8Mbps £25.99 50GB

One off setup fee of £47.00, free if migrating from another ISP.

Nildram is very tempted but I suspect they'll be given the "Pipex touch" before too long (despite what people say). F2S users have been shafted by Pipex already.

Hopefully I'm wrong...

They will only get the "Pipex Touch" if their services are over-used and abused.
Unfortunately we are seeing more and more people migrating into Nildram with the sole reason "My current ISP caps me" so I expect Nildram's services to be very much abused and then we'll all lose out.

Shame it's not really possible to share information between ISP's so Nildram for example could just take on "good" customers but alas there is no system in place.

pretty much it..ppl swap to take advantage so Nildram will no doubt introduce some sort of throttling as well and the majority will suffer

we can only hope many migrate to the car phone warehouse when it goes live with their talktalk package...

I'd put a fair wedge on Nildram introducing throttling... I really hope I'm wrong and the few don't abuse the service for everyone.
