Finally trying to lose weight!

if you just want to lose weight and be healthy you don't need the gym or do a 100 pushups!

I lost 3.5 stone in around 10 months by using myfitnesspal and using it religiously, I also used to do a 5 mile walk at 4.5 mph (very, very brisk on Endomondo) every morning that eventually turned in to a run 3 times a week, eventually I also included swimming and cycling. I find gyms boring and I do enough lifting at work!

Diet or rather calorie intake is crucial and using myfitnesspal really helps but you must include everything, even drinks when adding your daily intake or it just won't work.

Another vote for sorting calorie intake before pining down an exercise routine. Just over 2 years ago I weighed 17 stone and im the same height as you. 12 stone currently and maintaining.

I started exercise after the first stone or so and this was just playing footy couple times a week with a night or 2 on an exercise bike.

Myfitnesspal helped massively at the start, Had no idea how many calories I was drinking throughout the day in juices etc. Cut all that out.

The easiest system for me to stick to and fitted with my work schedule etc was the 16/8 intermittent fasting. I'll have a big proper meal at 6-7 o'clock at night and not take in a single calorie until 10-11 o'clock the next day. Nothing but water.

It sounds strict but being realistic, I'm in my mid 20's, one night of the weekend I would still go out and get drunk, to start with I was still having a cuppa or something healthy in the evening to take the edge off. It was a slow change in life style but the 16/8 eating habit is what I have landed on.

Myfitnesspal looks really good! Quite glad I only drink water and Milk judging by some of the calories in soft drinks and beer!!!

You need to stop looking for excuses :) as harsh as that may sound.. "Oh no time for gym" "this that hurts" work around your problems or stay fat!? I have a busy lifestyle but I manage to fit gym into it no problems! Yeah it's late, hard to get out after work etc but hey! If it was easy everyone would be in shape ;)

On that note, you don't need gym to lose weight :) walk more, stop eating crap and have 200-300 kcal deficit/day and weight will fall no problems ;) the one reason it is there in the first place is because you over-eat every time, stop doing that plus help yourself with some walking (aka calorie burn) and you'll be fine.

Lost 1/2 a stone so far. :)

Nice work keep it up. Make sure you weigh at consistent times during the day.

For me I do it as soon as I wake up and have peed, it's an easy baseline for comparison.

My tip is the best diet and exercise you can do is the one you actually will do.

If the pressups and diet you think you can achieve within your constraints and if gym is not an option then don't worry about it. I would also say don't worry about muscle loss, it's not really your concern here and although it's not ideal, it's definitely not your priority by the sounds of it. Once your at your target weight you can then worry about putting some back on if you want. In my opinion, worrying about it in the meantime will only distract from your actual goal.

Another 2 cents, have you considered the 5:2 diet? It might not be popular around here (I honestly don't know if it is or not) but I've been using it since the start of Jan - albeit with less of a weight loss goal - and in terms of cutting calories and seeing results I find it's very good

I started going to the gym with the goal of just losing weight. Doing a mixture of cardio and half baked resistance work wasn't doing anything for me. For the past two weeks I've been going 90% weights and a little cardio, mainly for warmups.

I've noticed for more of a change in my body in the last two weeks than the previous 3 months. Good progress on your part so far, but don't lose it too fast, otherwise you'll pack it straight back on again.
