Unfortunately you end up looking a tool every time you "sign off". Now correct me if I am wrong but unless you log out of the forum, close your browser and shut your machine down every time you post in the forum... you are not signing off? Perhaps it'd be acceptable if you signed the FINAL post in a thread and not every single one.... but you don't.

You are entering into a conversation that's in flow, to extend examples made in this very thread:

Me: Hey how are you? Nox.
Mate: I am fine....
Me: So what you get up to this weekend? Nox.
Mate: Went out, got minced. The usual.
Me: Ah cool, I just painted the kitchen all weekend. Nox.
Mate: Why the &*%^ do you keep saying your name at the end of every sentence?
Me: Dunno, pretentious I guess. Nox.

Just looks stupid, makes people sound stupid and is totally unnecessary. Its a whole attention whore (hope your not in Ipswich ;)) thing and really makes me grind my teeth every time.

A FORUM POST IS A CONVERSATION NOT A FLAMING FORMAL LETTER OR EMAIL!!!

Oh great - another poster that feels that the way to win an argument is to be as pedantic as possible. Really, we all know what we mean by "signing off" in a reply - to leave a brief message at the end of whatever they were saying. I'm guessing by the way you argue, that when someone is described as Gay, you think them to happy as adversed to homosexual?

Secondly, when exactly was a forum discussion regarded as being strictly informal? I must've missed that memo, because I always thought the definition of a forum was a place for discussion. Discussions, if my grasp of the English language is correct, can be both formal or informal - it's entirely dependant on the parties involved. So please, tell me where you have conjured up the idea that anything posted in a forum must be informal?

Thirdly, using an instant or verble conversation as an example as to why you think it's a stupid idea is slightly flawed. As with everything, a bit of context is needed. Memo's are not formal, yet I often sign them off with "-Wills" at the end just for clarification's sake.

As it's been said several times - you either like it or you don't. To call someone retarded, or even berate them at all soley due to the fact they type a few extra characters on the end of their post, is just childish.

Think about the amount of text regarding the number of characters in a post. If we say that a post could be about 500 characters (a bit high, but not massive), then 13 characters (a lot for signing off text) is only 2.6%. Longer posts will have over 2000 characters, so there will be even less of a percentage.
Yes, except that you're forgetting that the extra linebreak you add before your signing off text is yet another byte of bandwidth being used, making it a whopping 2.8% of a 500 character post...

Actually, I really couldn't care one way or the other, I just couldn't help replying to your post seeing how much effort you'd put into it.

Just do what i have done and add them to your ignore list.
Ignore lists really are pathetic things - they're the web equivalent of sticking two fingers in your ears and shouting 'la la la I'm not listening'

ps: if you think its that much of a problem, you must be absolutely TERRIFIED of real life.

Great assumption there! don’t know how you came to it but hey...

It just annoys me, just like people who eat with their mouth open...you know what i mean

Yes, I add one person to my ignore per day. Reason being if I do that for long enough eventially it will be just me and whoever on here annoys me the least :D

No they are not, they are there for a reason.

Ignore lists are invaluable especially on this forum :)

Signing your name at the end of each post is stupid.

easy. you dont have the balls or capacity to deal with your 'issue' on a forum. Quite easy to see why wouldnt hack real life all that well.

"oh no they're signing off each post. what to do, what to do....eeek id better put them on ignore. yeah, that'll show 'em."

well done there, give that man a cookie!

Fair enough; I didn't put much effort in really, I can talk about nothing for a long time (if I want), especially in writing. :p
