I saw an interview on Howard Stern, Dushku was saying what happened, she got the part, took Whedon to lunch, probably worn something very very low cut and asked him to do the show because it needed him. Thats how he got on Dollhouse and it shows, because its a pile of **** with a hint of something half decent there and one/two good lines, but it was afaik probably quite close to going into production before he came onboard so wouldn't have had much of a say and thats why supposedly, the second season was supposed to be better because it had more Whedon imput, but a great writer trying to keep a crap show going wasn't going to create magic.

Likewise I don't really have high hopes for a couple film re-writes, with limited scope for change. I mean he can't go "i'll set Captain America in a Firefly type settings".

He's at his best with his own show from original concept to final production from what I've seen, being that anything he didn't come up with, hasn't been very good at all.

Likewise, a film is incredibly limited compared to around 15 hours of TV per series, obviously :p The thing that made Buffy, Angle, Firefly so great was the characters, their changes, the different episodes, the dialogue and the comedy you get from having so many different situations for them to be funny in. A film has to be paced to within an inch of its life and is still limited as all hell, I didn't love Serenity, because it felt rushed, the snappy dialogue was there but incredibly limited, because it had to be. The story moved to fast and it felt a little bit like a cop out, it should have been a 2nd series continuing back story line across many episodes, gradually finding a way to find the memorys, the feds getting closer and closer throughout the series and a two parter finale to finish it off.

Then again, some guys have a few great idea's, then can't do anything fresh and good, some guys can go on writing fresh material forever.

The films may/may not be good, but I'm still hoping for a new series thats Whedon from start to finish.
 
I just borrowed this season from a friend as i had seen and own serinity on dvd and really enjoyed that but also this series was awesome but i can see why they canned it at the same time.

I wouldnt of cancelled it if i was in charge but hey am not =[ also it made me re-buy serinity on blu-ray :D

I quite liked Dollhouse and was somewhat sad to see it canned. I completely agree with all of the critisisms of the first season, I think it tried to do too many things and ended up becoming a convoluted mess. It showed towards the end of the second season aswell, when tieing up the loose ends became a burden on the story.

With the expection of Dushku however, I feel the casting for the show was spot on. The guys who played Topher and Victor were awesome and I enjoyed the casting of Alan Tudyk as Alpha. I grew to like all of the characters by the end and I think thats why I was left wanting more (a full season order may have satisfied that hunger).

I think Whedon's got a problem, especially with the online community in that they hold certain shows of his upon a pedestal. I would like to say "and rightly so" but doing this holds us back when trying to enjoy his new material.

Hehe I seen this and then proceeded to watch a firefly marathon after. It was an awesome TV programme. :(. Characters were all brilliant, each episode was well written and it had good humour. I especially like the Mrs. Reynolds episode and Jaynes Town, they were hilarious. Christina hendricks has done well for herself since then.. now the sexiest woman in the world according to Esquire.
 
Just watched the series and tonight the film.

At first i thought i wouldn't like the series. But for some reason i did, not sure what did it for me though. Still a few things im like what on? For one where Shepered went to... i guess just some random place to live as see in the film. And i would have to re-watch at least half of the film to understand everything what happened once they got to that place no one new about. As at the end they just let River go.... for now...

In one of the episodes when Shepered had been umm shot? And Alliance came in and Shepered had some sort of card... and then the Alliance got all like worrying... What the heck is that all about

Maybe a bit of wikipedia reading will help :)

Shame they didn't make more episodes really.
 
Shame.. no chance of making new ones now though as its years on.

Oh well... Ill have to watch again and again i guess in the future :)
