Firefox 3.0.2/2.0.0.17

It never was compatible with 3.0*?

* neglecting the fact that it's crap, doesn't really speed anything up, leaves all sorts of crap behind when you uninstall it etc

It did actually help the speed of mine due to us having the crapest of crap 480Kbps connections, it probably doesn't help speed things up on a 'modern' connection.

I'm pretty sure I've been using FasterFox since FF3 came out, maybe I used that toolkit that allows you to force compatibility, I can't remember.

In any measurable sense?
All it tweaks are some settings that were there already. In the majority of cases the settings can break Firefox (increased CPU and memory usage for starters) or put more load on the server at the other end. It should really be removed from addons.mozilla.org, given it's on the list of extensions that are well known to cause problems.

As for overriding compatibility, adding extensions.checkCompatibility and setting it to false will do.

It was definitely a noticeable increase in FF2 - maybe because of the caching features/multiple connections to server.

I've disabled it for now on FF3 as it's incompatible, and I haven't really noticed any slow down, so I guess the speed increases in default FF3 are better/equal to Fasterfox :)

Craig.

Thanks again - just updated now :)

Fasterfox is incompatible at the moment though :(

I used to use fasterfox then switched to Tweak Network that is faster & works on the latest FF.

I had problem with fasterfox on some web pages not loading all the images..ect..

well, 3.0.3 *seems* to have finally cured my flash video problem which was a cause of great annoyance to me, so this is good. I suppose only time will tell if it continues like this though.

nope there must be more to it than that. The 'bug' I was suffering from is quite well documented, in that after FF has been running or a long time, or has a lot of tabs open then any flash player such as youtube of iplayer won't work. Video's start to play but only for a couple of seconds with no sound before freezing. The problem was still there in 3.0.2 but no sign of it with 3.0.3.

As gads said, the only change in 3.0.3 was a fix for the password manager bug. If Flash is fixed, it's either an unintended side-effect (which would be unlikely) or it's unrelated.
