Firefox problem

I have had this problem everyso often and lately its really getting on my nerves. Firefox just decides to completely reset its self, loosing all my bookmarks, toolbar links, saved passwords, everything back to as if its just installed.

aAnyone ever had this, and if not....can anyone name me a good browser because this is fast sliding back down from something that was once deemed "awesome" :eek:

Which version?

If it's losing everything, it sounds like something funky is going on with your profile - are you closing Firefox properly or is it crashing a lot? Some (or probably all) of the data should still be there.

My pc does have a tendency to crash (weak power supply i think) But last night for example it was closed out properly then went to fire it up earlier this morning and like i have found before...nothing was there.

Nothing in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles - there'll be a bunch of folders with random letters and numbers followed by a dot and the profile's name.

Just one folder *randomletters*.default

If you poke around in bookmarkbackups, there should be a copy of your bookmarks.

Only a few recent ones, hmmm. Annoying. Any better browsers about. Im also annoyed by it constantly wanting to update

There's been two in the last three months, and 5 (if you count the initial 3.0 release) since June. That's "constantly wanting to update"?

What antivirus are you using, and again, which version of Firefox are you using? There's definitely no way your profile should be disappearing...

The browser is fine. Your computer seems to not be, though.

- Uninstall Firefox.
- Move /Documents and Settings/<yourname>/Application Data/Mozilla to your desktop after the uninstall. Various info and bookmark backups are here.
- Move /Program Files/Mozilla Firefox to your desktop after the uninstall.
- Re-install Firefox.

This behaviour you have is not normal and suggests your profile within Windows is dodgy.

As for alternative browsers.
Internet Explorer.
Opera.
Google Chrome.

version 2.0.0.18. Using AVG free edition and run C-cleaner once in a while too along with adaware

Upgrade to 3.0 then. 2's out of support, used to have issues with disappearing profiles, and was replaced by 3.0 6 months ago.

That might fix it.

Also, are you using any sort of PC cleaning program that might wipe it?
