Firework Season 2023

Not a fan of fireworks, I find it strange that in this health & safety obsessed society it's still deemed fine to legally sell explosives to the public for a few weeks/months of the year...

And I certainly don't like the effect they have on one of my dogs, she literally cowers in fear when she hears one go off.

The other isn't bothered at all although he is completely deaf in his old age!

There is a large paid display on the edge of town each year. Fortunately mast fireworks go quite high so hanging out of a bedroom window gives a perfectly good display. Or dressing warm and taking a chair to the canal towpath affords an excellent free seat too.

Not noticed any difference in the number being randomly set off at all hours throughout the year round here

Thankfully our cats and dog don't seem to give a ****, unfortunately the same can't be said for the other half who spends most of October - January wearing noise cancelling headphones from 4pm - 2am :(

Yes, it's bizarre that you'll end up on a watchlist for buying a few KG of fertiliser and BBQ charcoal, but buy the same weight in premade explosives and it's all good

I also find it bizarre that people are allowed to buy what can be a ballistic weapon.

probably better to sell legal ones than have a black market of far more dangerous ones.

many types were also banned, the ones i used in the mid 90`s are no longer sold.

I just find them an epic waste of money.

Went to a few organised shows when I was young when they were actually held on the 5th but now they make those into boring entertainment evenings with 5 mins of fireworks at the end and usually held weeks before the 5th. Yawn.

Very quiet around here this year, I've heard a faint pop here and there a few times a week, but nothing like previous years. As soon as October hits, usually around here is like World War 3 but not this year. My dog shakes like a leaf when she hears them so I'm more than happy right now.

I love fireworks. Usually go way OTT and get that look from Mrs Jigger that simultaneously says how much? really? grow up you ******* child!

How do they do that? I’ve practiced the look in a mirror and never pulled it off.

Good point, it's usually the same around here. This time of year the chavs usually come out to light up the night sky but not this year. It's been very quiet.
Of course, now I've said that things will kick off tonight

Been a while since I've heard/seen fireworks since moving more rural.
yes - we have horses living within half a mile - I'm not sure what the responsibility is for anyone having fireworks in their garden to ensure they are not too loud,
and give pre-warning to shelter(muffle?) them

Archers fan - coincidentally have a current story on horse being mortally wounded

Love me a good fireworks display. Extra points if it annoys the miserable gits who whinge about something that happens for a couple of nights of the year.

I don't think anybody would moan if it did actually only happen for a couple of nights a year. The problem is it happens almost every night/early morning for several months.

Where on earth are you? I wouldn't honestly know it was fireworks night half the time and even when I do release and hear or see some fireworks they aren't very many and unless they are on your road then the noise isn't much.

We get it round here am year randomly. That isn't to say it it's constant... But you never know when some are going to go off at random times.

See my location :(

It's not like they're proper displays most of the time, it's just odd ones here and there going off at any point throughout the night. There's only so many times you can tolerate needing to get up at 3am because some inbred **** decided it would be funny to launch one and it woke up the kids before you start to hate the ******** things and the vermin who set them off constantly :p

You're the exception rather than the norm surely?
