Fireworks

Organised events can be great even the smaller ones.

We used to have a bonfire in our garden when we were kids and the neighbours would come around have some food and a drink. Great fun. Now all you get is a random bunch of fireworks been let off throughout the day/night for no reason.

We will see how the Darwin awards do this year.

Was the fire a result of the fireworks? :D

My dogs hate them so I just put on loud music or watch the TV louder than normal to drown it out. I have no real issue but I did get hit by one leaving a nasty welt. Apparantly they cool down incredible quickly so happy no burns :).

I can see your point, my Nan's dog escaped from the garden quite some time back due to fireworks freaking her out. We've also had numerous cats which didn't like them either.

Enough about the animals...I think you have a point about limiting the sale and period for fireworks. I like fireworks just like the next person but detest the unrelenting use throughout the year.

I don't really understand fireworks I must admit. it is a lot of money to stand around looking up and thinking "ooh, ahh, wow so pretty" while simultaneously ****ing off people who are not interested and causing distress to animal's.

That is without mentioning the brain dead yob's who seem to get their hands on them.

That is just my opinion and I have nothing against people who use them responsibly and at the appropriate time.

Waah, waah, waah, waah. I don't like something so let's ban/restrict it.

This makes me laugh.

Im all for restricting the sale of fireworks within a time frame. I really can't understand how anyone can like the constant loud bangs of fireworks in the early hours of the morning or months before the fireworks night even starts.

Nothing actually wrong with having fireworks but theres to many idiots that think its good letting them of late at night. If everyone followed the restrictions of when not to let of fireworks it would be ok.

Personally there annoying all the same if your not at the event watching them yourself.

Pretty much this.

The vet thinks a bladder infection is caused by stress, caused be fireworks. Well good to see we have the facts established.

In other news my doctor thinks my cough is caused by cat hair caused by wind blowing the hair off a malting cat with a bladdwer infection caused by fireworks. Damn you fireworks and thank you genius doctor.

Back onto fireworks, we'll be having a large fireworks party with some seriously stunning pyro going off and I can't wait. The dog will also be there watching happily, but as with most things there will always be someone who complains citing some reason why fireworks have traumatised them or their pet.

Treat fireworks with care, act responsibly and within the regulations, then ignore those who whine.

Dogs suffer from the same thing if I remember rightly but nice try.

Yes they do. I'm a professional dog carer and I use a white noise machine during firework periods. It ensures I get zero problems with fireworks. :)

Lectrofan is the best one for masking sounds. They are £50 on rainforest but well worth it if your pet has a reaction to the sounds.

I think they should be kept to organised displays. Fireworks are great but they are also misused and it's a waste of NHS time and money and for the firebrigade too because an awful lot of people are just irresponsible or careless or ... well ... stupid.

As an aside OP there is a well known link between stress and the consequent lowering of immune ability in all mammals. This will result in increasing chance of infection.

Not too clued up on immunology I take it?

Lowered immune response has got absolutely nothing to do with "chance of infection". A body with no immune system whatsoever has exactly the same "chance of infection" as a body with the best immune system you can get.

It's got nothing do to with "chance" of infection. If an infectious agent is introduced to a host, the body is infected from that point onward - there is no chance of infection if you're already infected with something lmao.

An immune response is the body's mechanism of identifying and purging foreign infection which has entered already, it's not some magic force-field which stops a flu virus (for example) from ever coming into contact with your throat lmao.

If we were banding fireworks because if might upset some cats, 1 months a year.

We should be banning cats for devastating British wild animals. I'm sure the stress level in their victims is much higher. :)

I saw a poor mouse being "played" with by 2 cats the other day. :/

Who ever says it's just humans that hunt for pleasure is wholly ignorant. :D

Playing with food is a byproduct of domestication, the urge to hunt is still there but our cats are so well fed that they cant be bothered to land the killing blow.

I guarantee if you stopped feeding the cat he'd wolf down wildlife without a seconds pause.
