well, everything was wired up nicely, except the SPEAKER 4 pin, because my case does not have a case speaker ( nice one zalman), upon my first boot the fans spun the lights came on and the cpu fan seemed to be accelerating to insane speeds, i took that as a sign the cpu was working, But no output to the moniter, i tried all connections to no avail, decided to check the i7 chip itself, i cant quite remember but i think the cpu wasnt in the correct way, which is odd because they only go one way, so i changed it so the gold arrow faced bottom left as instructed, i did get a smudge of arctic silver compound inbetween the top and bottom of the chip, but not touching any connecters, upon second try lights and fans turned on but now its doing the classic old on for 2 seconds then off rinse & repeat, to my amazement it still tried to boot even with the psu unplugged once or twice
as for TIM, i spread a thin layer on the chip cover and smoothed it, it wasnt quite at the point of being almost see through, and i didnt smooth it obsessively, i also put a 1mm thick line down the middle for it to spread when the sink is applied, i had no heating issues during the first try as far as i could work out, but then again i wasnt even sure if the cpu had power,
i removed the cmos and replaced, checked connections, did a skeleton boot, and it would be FANTASTIC to have a fairly detailed awnser, i have found that some peoples awnsers tend to leave a lot to be desired
this is my last resort before i take it to a pro ( which could cost me a bit)
cheeeers!
also, the psu is a brand new corsair
