will these parts go well together?

i wont be overclocking and im thinking of getting the i7 950 instead

getting a case from somewhere else.

any advice would be nice :D

Have a look at the BeQuiet PSU, this is not modular but offers 50w more for similar price.

Could save some money by going with the Asus Motherboard, instead, but far as I am aware they are both good.

As your overclocking you probably want to spend some more on a better cooler some below:

i want the antec because it is modular so itll help with cable management. might get the asus instead...

i wont be overclocking, should the arctic freezer 7 be ok ?

its going to be for general use, maybe play a game the odd time

Needs bigger screen tbh :P

Why are you pairing such a high end CPU and RAM with such a low end GPU and leetle screen? What is this PC's purpose?

want it to last for a couple of years just, dont really play games much on the computer so no need for an expensive gpu, itll just be for general use

would you consider an am3 quad core system ?

nope, i prefer intel more, been using the same pentium 4 for the past 6-7 years

If its just for general use then you'd probably be better off with an i3 based system as the i7 will be total overkill...

i like things to be fast :) also want it to be "future proof" mobo comes with usb3 and sata 6gb also a few years down the line i can upgrade it to a i7 980x

If its general use and you want it to be fast go with an i3 and an SSD. You will notice much better speeds with an SSD and 4 cores is overkill for general use, you just wont notice much speed difference.

Might want a bigger screen. Bigger = better :p

GPU if your going to game sometimes (depnding which ones of course) You might want a decent GPU which can handle at least medium graphics such as a 5770/4850 or 260.

the 240 has hdmi and it isnt that expensive wont game too much tbh, i will eventually get a SSD further down the line

but will 550W be enough to power this set up ? im getting the 950 and the Asus P6X58D-E now

It may have HDMI but that makes no difference to how **** it is :D

Yes 550W will power an i7 with any high end GPU.

edit: Oh and 70 for a 240 is not cheap. You can get a second hand 4870 for that price.

lol i know, hdmi will be used so i can plug it into my tv to watch 4od or other streaming programs

If your going to plug it into a TV you might want to get a second hand 5770 for about 90 pound which has HDMI and outputs HD Audio as well and its a much better card to play games with as well.
