Ok started building my new pc today, followed everything and everything got connected up.

when i press the power button to start it up i just get a really loud high pitch squeek  no idea whats causing it...

specs are

q6600
gigabye P35-DS3R
8800GT
2gb geil ram

anyone can help plz? :(

Squeek? Or beep?

Is it just one beep? or does it carry on? Kind long beeps?

Definitely have everything connected? Power to Graphics card, 24-pin ATX cable, 4-pin cable? (normally next to cpu...)

All I can say is make sure of your connections. Check that your power supply plugs are firmly in place, also check with your manual that the front panel connectors are in the right location and the right way round.

.

Does the graphics card have the power cable connected? You might get a message about it operating in low power mode if its that.

my 8800gt gave me a really loud high pitch squeek because i haddent connected the power cable to it

about this power cable into the graphics card, this might sound retarded but i can't find one/ place to put it :/

Not coming from the PSU is it?

Put your ear next to it...well, near it. And see if it is coming from there.

Re-seat the ram as well.

I'm thinking the cpu is ok due to the "squeek", but you may want to check that as well, ie take it out of the socket, check the pins on the board, they should all be perfectly alligned, even slightly bent can stop the computer booting...Then put it back in the correct way, where the notches are.

What PSU do you have? It might not come with one. It should look like this:

does a 6 pin go into the gfx card and the psu? because one of my pci-e connectors doesnt fit into the psu or the gfx card.

It wouldn't do much use if it only plugged in to one or the other. Your PSU should have came with two, try the other one. I am sure I read the other day that someone said one of their HX620 PCI-E clips were too big and wouldn't fit.

yeah i think thats the problem, both my sets of pci-e leads have the same clips and one fits and one doesnt.

sigh :(

Howdya mean one fits and one doesn't?

Have you tried both ends? either in the psu or the graphics card? You can't really plug them in wrong cause the ends are keyed.

Check the SMART settings in the bios? Might be set to disabled. Or perhaps the HDD doesn't support it! What HDD is it?

Oh :| I thought you had an old IDE drive or something. Is it the only drive in the PC? Check the bios SMART settings.
