Some silly bint did it to me a little while back, but luckily there was no collision.
I was reversing to gain clearance from the car in front of me so I could pull away... watching my mirrors as I slowly reverse I see her flying in in a Mini and think "She isn't...".
She does.
Zips right in next to the kerb as I continue to slowly reverse, then she had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting me. Her face in the mirrors was priceless. Some people just don't pay enough bloody attention.

I had something similar happen but I went through my insurance.
I had 3 years no claims and this happened 2 weeks before renewal.
The other driver claimed, I didn't. I only lost 2 years no claims so back down to 1 and my premium went up by £50.
I'd speak to them and say you want to get it looked at by a different garage and if they refuse go through your insurance, saves any messing about.

If they refuse to go to a different garage thats their problem.
As of this point I wouldnt be talking to them anyway.
Problem the OP has is he has made a school boy error in accepting responsibility for the accident in the first place.
Lets just pray he hasnt been completely stupid and signed anything to that effect.
OP IGNORE these people and contact your insurance and tell them you have been run into.

They are trying it on there is no way a body shop would charge that much. Where did they get that quote in such a short time? seems suspect. Go through your insurance, if she was moving too they may even say she was at fault.
Go through insurance - it'll probably go 50/50 as you were reversing and you can say they drove into the back of you (which on the face of it that's what it sounds like in your OP)
Don't accept fault - let somebody else decide that. Yes you were going backwards and could've looked more in mirrors, but if it doesn't matter if a car in front of you is reversing, driving forwards or crabbing sideways, you still don't drive into the back of it.

You hardly shot backwards she was not paying attention or was going too fast to stop.
Go through insurance, it'll go 50/50 if you describe it to them the way you have here, even though I think it wasn't your fault at all! if someones reversing it'd be retarded to try and pull up behind them :/
If you decide to try and settle outside of insurance and she claims she's hurt or w/e you'll be screwed
since your insurance is £400pa you've probably got a sum of no claims and driving years behind you already the hit won't be anywhere near a £700 increase.

Reversing with the rear window steamed up and not seeing a car behind you sounds like an at fault accident to me. I'd take it on the chin and let the insurance company sort it out.
Especially having admitted fault it would seem a little ***** to try and force a 50/50.

[Edit] Just seen the bit about not looking - sounds like it was your fault then. If it was then be honest, but if she honestly drove into you as well then push for a 50/50 as that's what it was.
Either way i'd go through the insurance company.
The lady rang me last night and told me the garage where she got the quote said to inform her insurance company, which she did. Is that it then, that's the direction it has to go? One more thing, I have £300 excess, does that apply if fixing someone else's car only?

Seriously though, you both made poor judgement, tell the insurance asap and it'll probably go 50/50. If you tell them your rear window was steamed up it isn't going to help your cause though.
