Hey guys, have my first driving lesson to day, at half 1 :)
just wondering have you got any tips or anythink?
am a little scared but the lad am doing it with is my mums cousin, so i know he will be alright with me.

so any tips will be great full.
also what was your first driving lesson like?
Cheers! :)

Unless you've already had some experience, dont expect to be doing too much driving, you'll be learning clutch control and all the general bits an peices that you will need to control the car safely :)

Best thing you can know is take your time, don't run before you can walk :)

I remember mine like it was yesterday. :D

Didn't go very far. One long stretch of road so I could see what's coming early. Was all about changing gear, throttle control, using mirrors before pulling away and turning in etc.

You not going with a trained driving instructor then?

first thing he'll do is take you somewhere basically dead to see how good you are at driving a car. Because i had tons of experience he took me on the roads straight away, but ive got mates that didnt do that until about the 4 - 5th lesson because they had never driven before. Dont worry though, the instructors do it all the time, just try not to be nervous, theres nothing to be nervous about. go out and enjoy it :)

Yeah he is, he works for BSM.

and i have driven loads of cars, as am a mechanic, and i am fairly good with clutch control and gears.

If so, he'll realise that the first time you sit in the car and so will not spend so much time on the really basic stuff if you can allready do it :)

The 1st thing my driving instructor did was stamp on my left foot. He told me it was so I would know which foot to use the clutch with.:p

Good luck, hope it goes well.

I remember mine. I didnt do much driving. It was all about learning how to change gears, how to run the inside of the car (lights indicators etc etc) I did about 10-15minutes of driving. It was good fun :).

My first lesson was ~45minutes chatting about controls and stuff and ~15 driving along main roads, nothing too technical.

Even though i'd driven before he just wanted to find out what i knew and to tell me what i didnt know :)

Hi Chopper good luck i was in the same boat as you when i first started to drive (Mechanic private road behind dealership ah those were the days.) One thing i do remember was my driving instructor used to stab me with a pen in the leg if i went to fast which was pretty much every lesson. Apart from that just take your time and enjoy it.:D

i remember my first lesson, he drove to an empty road, i got in the car, he told me how to set off....and then we got moving.

none of this sittng around learning the clutch for 45minutes

right guys, i had my first lesson and it was awesome. :D
he was asking me then telling me the questions i would expect to get, sat in side the car, told me which mirrors to check, 15 minutes later i was driving around.. stalled it twice, but got the hang of it in the end, ( diesel for you :p ) i am in a band new 1.7 diesel astra, its a very nice car, feels good. he's also told me to book my theory, so i cant wait till next week now :D.

nice one mate

but diesel astra and nice car dont belong togther in the same sentence :p

i learnt in a fiat idea (bascially a van)
