First Driving Lesson

drivings easy peasy

The theory is a laugh to, you have to click on some buttons its like being online at home but without the internet. then you get to play granturismo for 10 minutes but you have to click everytime you change direction its hella funny

Best advice ever

Driving is NOT easy, its far from it, its a skill that needs to be learned and not abused.. nothing easy at all..

Uh no lol

Driving on the roads needs to be learnt. But the actual control of the car (getting it moving) is really easy. Just look at all those kids in Manchester who steal cars on there way to primary school

My first lesson she drove me to a quiet town and parked up. Got me to pull away and stop.....then told me to pull put of the layby and back in after the car infront. Then she decides oh just stay out....few minutes later im on NSL road doing 60 it was a little scary since i hadn't used the brakes hard yet n that.

They will sort you out though, you pay then for a service after all!

Yeh but why dont you go ahead and tell him to be complacent? because thats pretty much what you're saying dude..

right guys, i had my first lesson and it was awesome. :D
he was asking me then telling me the questions i would expect to get, sat in side the car, told me which mirrors to check, 15 minutes later i was driving around.. stalled it twice, but got the hang of it in the end, ( diesel for you :p ) i am in a band new 1.7 diesel astra, its a very nice car, feels good. he's also told me to book my theory, so i cant wait till next week now :D.

Nice one :)

I did my theory about 3 months after i had my first lesson. I'd say you've got plenty of time, it seems some instructors like you to get it out of the way while others use it as a tool to tell you you're alomst there. Mine was the latter.

Diesel cars are practically unstallable unless you really get the clutch wrong.

I learned in a 1.2 corsa and stalling was a major problem (Caveat - i have a very dodgy left ankle, repeated torn ligaments have taken their toll and i think where my foot ended up in that particular car for the bite didn't help - it just hurt until i got used to it!) that i'd say i only really cracked after about 7 months. I just decided that a diesel (By coincidance i ended up owning a diesel car) or an automatic would be the way forward but i seem to manage my mums 106 ok.

I would recommend - if you haven't already - getting some practice in on a smallish engined petrol car just so you know what to expect.

Yeah, i screwed it up really bad, it started to shake, but i caught it before i stalled it, stopped and then redid it set of fine. i wouldn't say i am the best or what eva, but i know i am getting the hang of it i can now set off smoother and brake smoother and he was happy with that, and so was i. :)

and yeah i have a 1.6 escort i will be driving around while i aint in the astra. :)

Everyone who has ever learned to drive has stalled at least once, I learnt to drive 20 years ago I know i did.

Just remeber 2 things:-

1) Treat EVERYONE else on the road as an idiot.
2) You don't start to learn to drive until AFTER you have passed your test.

Roger That! :)

i had my first lesson 2 weeks ago, im learning in a renault clio
only spent around 15 minutes talking about the standard stuff then spent the rest driving around a large estate. then i drove it home which i was chuffed about :D

another tip for you, never say "im not going to stall it today" before a lesson because i can guarantee that you will after saying that :p

and happy birthday

stalling isnt a big deal, everybody does it. You can even do it on your test, and as long as you do everything right (all the observations, securing the car and that) you dont get penalized for it. Its just one of those things, everybody does it now and again. Shouldnt make a big deal of it.

Took me quite a few lessons to learn to do this. But once I did it my standard of driving just got so much better.

Chill out. May not be an issue for you but I was pretty nervous at first and also I was getting really frustraighted with any mistakes I made. Say I stalled it for the rest of that lesson I would just be rubbish. But with being a lot more relaxed about it learnt that if I do make a daft mistake to not let it bother me.

Also again, may not sound like you but at first I was also really paranoid about over revving a bit when pulling away and I'd let it bother me. But as my instructor kept telling me is it really dosent matter (as long as your not red lining it off the line :p ) And actually it can be very handy sometimes. Not so much something to think about in a diesel but in a petrol just giving it a bit more gas can save you from stalling if you **** up when bringing the clutch through bite. I also find it gives a lot smother pull away if you set the gas a bit more than you need to. For example in the focus im in you only need to rev upto about 1.5k to get a smooth take off but the problem is it takes a bit of thinking about becuase the car dosent really sound any louder between 1-2k rpm. So instead I just rev it a bit higher.

Anyway good luck - if your anything like me you'll have such fun on your lessons.

I remember my first bike lesson, I was seriously pooping myself.

main thing i had to get over was that I wasn't in mortal peril every time I went out on the road.
