First look at Broadwell-E. Intels first step in performance regression.

It's Intel fault when they release a new chip thats barley any better than the ones that come before it. Not mine or anyone else's. Now your just typing for the sake if it.

Depends on your workload. For some people going from 4 core to 6 core is a massive speed increase especially if you are doing lots of video encoding / 3D rendering / audio work.

He was right when he said games were a really bad performance measurement for CPUs. They hardly make use of modern CPUs. Where as going from a 6700k to a 5820k would be a massive improvement for video work and 3D rendering.

The fault lies with yourself, you don't listen to reason or evidence.

Completely ignoring inflation and the price of the pound against the dollar for example and just saying "Well it costs more now so I don't care".

Judging a CPU on gaming performance alone is rather silly too, if that's all you use your machine for then fair enough but that doesn't make some of these new CPU's useless for everyone. A 5820k costs around the same as a 6700k and will destroy it in pretty much everything other than gaming and in games you'll be hard pressed to notice a difference. There's also tasks where Skylake is a good deal ahead of Haswell, emulation for example.

It's actually nice to have the option of the enthusiast platform for that kind of price or perhaps you could look at moving to the US if you want fair component pricing.

Read threads much? :p

I only really use my system for gaming at home now. I rinsed X99 in to see what was feasible and what wasn't and what could be done with memory on the 8 core, but the outlay for the 10 core doesn't appeal to me. Broadwell mainstream has a terrible IMC too, so will be interesting to see if BWE is the same.

I guess I'll just go ahead and buy a 5820k then...

Should do until the silicone age comes to an end at this rate :P

Or maybe I'll just keep my 5 year old 2600k forever :D

Then my grand kids can inherit it. Maybe by then Intel will have released a worthwhile upgrade.

X99 motherboard prices are falling and thats usually a sign CPU's will follow. The Intel strategy might be putting people off X99. Z170 boards are also dropping again and 6700k dropped a decent amount last time that happened.

Broadwell-e will cost around the same if not a little bit more than haswell-e in £'s Intel have been rather consistent with their pricing of late... £ price may fluctuate due to £/$ exchange rate which is pretty poor in run up to brexit vote. Motherboards may just be getting cheaper because both z170 and x99 have been on the market for a while now and the manufactures are dropping prices to stimulate demand. The motherboard manufactures don't have the development costs or business model of Intel and so its not surprising that there products can get cheaper through their lifecycle. Same is not true of Intel who tend to hold the price of their cpu's steady (in $ as that's what they sell in, £ price can fluctuate due to exchange vat rate etc) until they go eol.

I think anyone hoping for an £800-900 6950x or a sub £350 6800k on launch going to be disappointed...

Stock has to turnover or no one makes money. Intel and the supply chain can't just keep pumping stock into warehouses and shelves. It's that simple.

Its only been a few months since the price of the 6700k dropped below £300 indicating supply catching up with demand somewhat. J batch haswell-e's still fairly popular. Don't think Intel need to drop prices, they certainly haven't needed to for quite a while (at least 10 years).

I'm temped to go for a used 5820k and motherboard. With ram on top it comes to around £500 at the moment. That is likely to drop once people start buying the new kit.

Enjoy your system now no point in all this waiting!! Everyone waiting for the holy grail each time new stuff is released!!

We are 8pack ;) it's just lots of us are enjoying our old systems cause the jump is harder to justify against the cost with small gains.

Still, think ~Cannonlakish time I'll do a full upgrade just because it's been ages and I want to!

Any new on when the Broadwell-e range is happening? My main PC is playing up (software side of things - Win 10 stopped playing ball with USB storage) and instead of splatting it to do a reinstall just going to build a new system , hopefully around the time the new gen graphic cards get delivered. Broadwell-e likely soon?
