Hi guys,

I have just taken delivery of my first SSD which is the 160gb Intel.

How do I go about installing 7 on it?

The same as a normal HDD? Or is there anything different I will have to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys :)

Cheers,

Nick

First try to set the SATA mode to AHCI in your BIOS (sorry if that's wrong - it's been a while since I've done it). You then install Windows 7 (rather quickly, I must say) in the same way as you would on a normal hard drive. Once it's installed check that defragmentation isn't scheduled (it should be disabled) and download the new Intel SSD Tools and you're good to go.

P.S. I own the X25-M G2 myself, the 80GB version. The 160GB one is even faster - you'll love it.

Hope it justifies the amount of money I have spent on it!

The most I have ever spent on a HDD is £70! So was a big step up to fork out for this!

You're mad! The Intel G3's are out soon and you'll be able to buy a 160Gb G3 for the same price or a little more as a 80Gb G2 right now because the flash memory sizes are cutting right down to 25nm

Think calling him mad's a bit much :)

Ah I picked it up cheap. Got it for £250, so not too bad!

I am always sitting on the fence with things, should I, should'nt I?

So thought why not!

Will try installing 7 now and see how it goes! Wish me luck!!!

Have I done something wrong?

Comparing to my Samsung F3!

dont worry

i have two of these [one for os, one for games, overkill i know]

they are quality pieces of hardware. the g3 will be good but not a massive leap

but those CDM scores are waaaaayy out

G3 might be faster.

But only in writes, as does this thing not max out my SATA 2 R2E board?

Will install 7 and see how she performs then.

I just unplugged my CD drive and plugged this in to see what it was like! :p
