Hi guys ordered my first ssd and I want to make sure that I install it correctly so can you comment on if i am doing it properly please..

Firstly I will set I believe it is ACIH mode in bios then install windows, once windows is installed I will run Samsung SSD Magician software so it can set the settings in windows and check for firmware updates. Once that is done I will install my av then do windows updates.

I think I have my bases covered but as its my first time with a SSD I thought it best to check with you guys.

Thanks

When I install to my ssd drive I just have that plugged in and nothing else.

Once windows is installed I then plug in my storage drive.

Find it better that way.

yes what youve said is right

just attach the ssd to the intel sata3 ports, set to ahci in the bios, install windows, once done attach your old hdd and then set the ssd as first boot device in the bios to boot from that and not your old hdd

then install the latest intel rapid storage drivers to improve your ssd speeds further and thats it

i think the magician tool disables that for you,its not essential though

disabling sleep mode will save you some space and reducing pagefile,i suppose its more important on small ssd's where your limited with space ect

Magician Tool disables:

1. Super Fetch = disabled
2. Defragmentaion = disabled
3. Indexing service =disabled

And I do not think any of the 3 are for restore points though?

All I'd do is disable system restore and hibernate, saves you a load of space. All the other 'tweaks' aren't needed IMO. Superfetch should be left on, windows won't defrag an SSD anyway, and Indexing is fine left on also.

Hijacking the thread a bit here.

I currently have 3 Harddrives. 1 for OS, 1 for Steam and 1 for music/videos.
I am running my BIOS in IDE mode.
If I buy a new SSD to use for the OS, un-plug all the drives, set BIOS to ACHI, install Windows and then re-connect my storage and steam drive, will they still work?

I believe that would be fine m8.

Thanks Katoom well i think im ready for my new build next week can nto wait ordering all my stuff tomorrow weeeeee :)
