Got the parts for my Computer yesterday :) and as stated in the title i'm new at this, I have been told that it is easy to build a PC so i did some research as to what is required to get the job done. Component list as follows

Antec 300 with basiq 55w psu, Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P motherboard,

AMD Phenom II X3 tri core 720 Black edition cpu, ATI 4830 Graphics Card,

Corsair XMS3 4gb DDR3 ram, Samsung spinpoint 320gb sata hdd.

I also used an 160 gb Western dgital hard drive and DVD re writer both of these are ide, it took a bit of time to put it all together but i got it finished.
Where i need help is on the Psu i have a load of wires left over on the unit and sockets, is this because i dont have sound cards and other bits to connect up. Also will i be OK to power it up as havent done so yet will post pics if need thanks in advance.

Just make sure and double make sure everything is connected correctly and that you have used copper stand offs to mount the motherboard or you could short it and kill it.

Other then that use some plastic cable ties and get the cables as neat as you can. (this will get easier and better with practise and experience)

Place all the spare cables inside a spare bay or behind the back. The A300 is a surperb case.

Final checks before power up include:

Make sure that 20/24 pin ATX connector is secure on ther mobo

make sure the 4/8 pin CPU ATX connector is secure on the mobo.

Make sure the CPU HSF is connected to the correct 3 pin power on the mobo.

Make sure your memory is seated correctly and secure.

Make sure your graphics card is seated correctly, and has the appropriate aux power connected (if applicable)

Make sure the Hard Dives and Oprtical drives all have power and are connected to the mobo using either SATA or IDE cables, depending on which ones you have.

That's it really.

Oh, and since you're a new builder, you did use stand-offs.. and themal pad/paste on the CPU? didn't you ?

get it booted up and working first. then tidy up the cables later

for now , make sure it comes on and you can see the HD and load windows.

that was quick thanks. I've used the stand-offs and thermal Paste for cpu but was wondering if i power it up is there any chance of wrecking the pc ?

No, not really. Providing you have applied thermal paste then you won't have a problem. Even if you have the CPU HSF is disconnected or memory inserted incorrectly, you will get a siren warning of the danger. Make sure you connect a speaker to the mobo aux connectors. That way you'll have audio post bleeps.
