First time doing a bbq!

Keep the vegan to meat eaters **** to a minimum please. Thread bans will be issued to people who can’t be polite, and are ****s.
Indeed, I just spent 20 minutes of my Friday evening cleaning up this thread. Just don't engage with the trolls please.

Thread ban has been issued...

I do vegan bbq. It makes it easy as don't need to worry about food poisoning. Beyond burgers are great on bbq

Fair comment but have to say in several decades of having many many BBQs I've never been ill. You just need to know how to cook on a grill.

not too thick and not too thin

Hmm, what kind of bbq rack did you use please?

You need to get a rotisserie style attachment. Ideally one that rotates electromechanically. But that's a bit more involved than just a bog standard BBQ. Ours is not in the UK not sure how common they are here. A lot of BBQs certainly in Cyprus for example have little motors on them to rotate the skewers etc...

I too eat good vegetarian burgers. I prefer them to meat. Which is saying something considering I used to make my own beef burgers and they were great. Same goes for any minced beef. Veggie mince every time nowadays.

I still sometimes eat meat sausage and wouldn’t bbq veggie sozos. And I eat proper meat.

I really don't get the whole fake "meat" thing. If you want a burger have a burger, if you don't want to eat meat there are plenty of awesome veggie options, e.g.:

Halloumi

Veg skewers; onion/mushroom / peppers/courgette/aubergine

Courgette or aubergine slices brushed in olive oil/herbs/spices

Seared asparagus/tenderstem broccoli

Glazed sweetcorn

Yeah I prefer them too. I find they taste a little "lighter" and have a more interesting flavour.

What's weirdest for me is Ive been drinking soya milk so long I don't even like normal milk anymore!
Had some at my parents and obviously my taste as totally changed!

Because you don't want animals to suffer but like the taste of meat. I like fruit. But I'm not a big fan of most vegetables. Especially a lot of the typical vegan ones

I've never had fake "meat" that tasted like anything other than badly cooked vegetables (well, usually closer to nondescript mush, the kind of thing you'd imagine "artificially created nutrient paste" to taste like in some dystopian sci-fi), certainly nowhere near the taste of meat.

Maybe some people like that, but personally I prefer nicely cooked veg to badly cooked veg

Since things are close to thier processed alternatives. Chicken nuggets for example. And as said I really like beyond burgers. But I also really like peas.
And I find it much better than cheap meat. But yes. Now I would chose the beyond burger over the real meat! Which is crazy.

Beyond seems a bit like marmite. Some people seem to love it. Others.. Hate it.

Find they taste best in bbq!

burgers that try too hard to be like meat are a no no for me (but i have found good ones),plenty of recopies out there its a case of getting the binding right or they just fall apart.
big mushrooms ,peppers ect a decent salad and hot chilli sauce and good bread

Expecting a veggie burger to taste like meat is a bit optimistic I think. I've tried loads of veggie stuff (there's always shelves of it in every supermarket with the yellow stickers) and I can't say I've had anything which I wouldn't eat again. I'd never deliberately choose it over a good old fashioned beef burger, but I wouldn't turn it down. In fact I've had a few things which have actually been quite tasty.

I do wonder why the marked-down stuff is always full of vegetarian and vegan products though.

That's an easy one, they are made to sell to the meat eaters, loads do meat free days veganuary ect ect

Doesn't seem to be working as they hoped given companies are reducing or abandoning their entire "meat but vegan" lines due to poor uptake.

Edit - to be clear, when I say "meat but vegan" I am specifically referring to the vegan food made to be meat alternatives e.g burgers, sausage etc
