First time eyefinity, not going to well....

I have xfire 5870's (both on Asus unlocked bios) in Eyefinity on dell 2009w monitors with two by DVI and one by DP->VGA. It works fine (apart from CTDs occasionally/often) running 10.8 + 10.8a profiles.

Running BC2 at 4xAA 5348x1050 I get decent fps 40+, can post benchmarks later of other games. I can also confirm it works on Dirt 2 all settings maxed average 69fps in the ingame benchmark so it does work with steam.

Only thing i can suggest is an uninstall and cleanup (driversweeper in safe mode) of the ATI drivers and reinstall with 10.8 + 10.8a and cross fingers.

5870 xfire seems rubbish at applying AA in eyefinity - e.g. Metro, BC2 above 4xAA, Crysis above 4xAA. Maybe 1GB VRAM just isnt enough. Remember crossfire doesnt enable if ur playing in windowed mode.

Tried a new drive install, still the same thing, seems completely pointless to have x-fire when it makers performance worse if anything. Thinking of putting then on ebay and getting nvidia if this is the drivers ati are putting out.

If you have AA enabled in any of these games, first turn it off, then if it works try it with 2*

With my eyefinity set up I've found that AA tends to cause most of the problems with game crashes and artifacts.

Single or dual cards?
A 5970 struggles with eyefinity

I'd disagree that the 5970 struggles with eyefinity.

I must have 20+ games and they all work with eyefinity, though some require slight tweaks to the gfx settings to make the most of them. As noted above, I mainly find it's AA causes the problems and also the correct versions of the drivers/profiles.

But maybe that's what you mean by struggles with eyefinity. But to get the benefit of a 6048*1200 resolution I'm prepared to fiddle a little bit to get it to work as when it does work, it's brilliant.

Taff do u find it CTD a lot in games? particularly BC2?

try this mate, a lot of people get the ctd on bc2 this seems to of worked for me, it might not for you but its worth a try. Right click on the badcompanys.exe file, Properties> compatibility tab> tick disable desktop composition.

What driver version and profile versions are you guys using to get this to work then ? I will try some games again to night with whatever version you are using and also with AA disabled. The only versions of CCC I can get to work with crossfire is 10.7 & 10.8, the earlier versions don't seem to give me the option of making a group when crossfire is enabled. Anyone heard anything about new drivers yet, leaks ect or will we have to wait till 24th or around then ?

i play games with at least 2 - 4 aa hence why struggles :P

Hi Subby,

I run 4 screens from my PC.

3* Dell 2407's via the ATI5970
1 * LG 42' LCD from the ATI 3450.

Bit of overkill, but if say you play FSX, you can have the pilots view spread across the 2407's (6048 * 1200), then the map, controls, ATC on the 42' LCD.

I also use the LG for playing a DVD etc on the LCD, while working with my work spread across the 3 * 2407's

Taff do u find it CTD a lot in games? particularly BC2?

Hi creed,

BC2 gave a lot of artifacts, but not CTD. PLaying with the shadow settings at AA seemed to cure most of the artifacts, apart form the snow level which was a nightmare for corruption and artifacts. Haven't played BC though since probably the 10.6 drivers so don't know what it's like now.

At present I'm running the 10.8 drivers. Tend to move up each driver when they are released.

Don't overclock, but it could be something to do with running the Dual gfx cards, driver issue, but did try with the 3450 disabled.

Have finished BC2 now and don't play anymore, will see if the same problem is there when BC3 come out.

Ok well i've done a complete clean install of win 7 x64. Made a new image with Acronis and have installed everything except direct x and ati drivers. I have downloaded every driver since 10.3 to 10.8. There is not a chance that there will be any other drivers to mess this up. Completely clean install. What do you guys think I should start with ? This is gonna take a while if they don't work i'll have to format C: and bring back image. I'm gonna go threw them all and see what happens. Fingers crossed !

Well 10.8 with 10.8a profiles, bf2 getting about 40 - 45 fps in one part with crossfire enabled, getting about 55 - 60 with it off, any suggestions what version to try next ? Seriously considering selling one of these 5870's.
