The undertaking bit was more in reference to one of keates posts, it's very rare there's a gap someone not in an f1 car could utilise.
Berger, don't be a dong, the traffic in lane one is usually travelling at less that 60mph, I'm not going to slow down from my 70+ speeds to let someone doing 80+ past when they can just use the 3rd lane. And as stated, if there's a big enough gap I'll move over.
I know it's motors policy to be holier than thou and vilify (spelling) people who you can tenuously link to some bogey monster terrible driver cliché, allowing yourself to come across as some alpha male, perfect driving machine, but in this case I think a lot of you need to actually read what I'm writing. I'll give a blow by blow below -
In my experience on the motorway lane 1 has a pretty steady stream of vehicles doing 60ish or less. I therefore use lane 2, doing my speed of 70ish+, if I encounter a slower vehicle in lane 2, I will overtake it and return to lane 2. If a vehicle approaches from the rear AND there is enough room in lane 1 for me to enter it and get back into lane 2 without losing speed by the time the vehicle has gone past, I will enter lane 1, if there isn't I will maintain heading and speed and let them pass via lane 3. If no vehicle is behind me I will stay in lane 2 (unless there is a mahoosive gap (keates, I confused myself here, that's the mahoosive gap I was talking about)).
There is no problem with the above, I can't be expected the spend most of my time doing 60mph just because people want to do 80 in lane 2.
