First Time Overclock + Unlock

Hey,

I have finished my new build and have unlocked my Phenom II X2 550 BE to 4 cores - now it's time for overclocking.

I am a complete beginner and has read a few guides however I am still confused about a few things.

Here is what I have so far:

Increase my mulitplier in the bios by .5 each time and then stabilty test/check the temps. If all is okay repeat until unstable then increase the voltage in small incraments as nescessary.

I have read about overclocking affecting the memory and I should change the memory settings also? I genuinly have no clue about how to do that.

Also, now that I have unlocked my cpu to 4 cores I am no longer able to check the temps - does anyone know how I can do this?

Any help would be great, thanks.
 
You shouldnt need any other voltages other than vCore if your overclocking on multiplier, apart from a small bump in CPU-NB voltage.

As far as temp sensors, the temps aren't displayed when a chip has been unlocked, not quite sure why but im sure somebody can point this one out. It even does it if I enable ACC with my Athlon II chip
 
It looks like you have the idea. Get to your maximum cpu clock before worrying about anything else. Although it might be best to run your RAM at 1333 rather than 1600 while you are clocking. Officially 1600 is not supported but you will probably find that increasing to 1600 will not affect your overclock once you have it set nicely.

As for the temp monitoring this does not matter. The individual core temps on phenom IIs are software generated and not completely reliable anyway. When someone says that the max cpu temp is 62 or whatever they are talking about the TMPIN value. Your mobo will report several TMPIN values and depending on the motherboard the one that relates to cpu temp will differ. Just have a look at them (use HWmonitor or speedfan or similar) and then start prime95 blend testing. The one that jumps up rapidly will be the cpu temp!
