First time SLI what to expect?

So it looks like I'm going SLi :D But I have no idea what to expect, and what to do to make it work! Also how does overclocking work in SLi?

My friend and I bought the same card (Asus GTX 670 4GB DCUII) and we both managed to overclock to 1202/7008 (his could do 1242/7008 but he decided to bring his clock down slightly to match mine for some reason). He's upgraded to a 780 so I get his "old" card.
Considering I know what both cards clock at would I be able to just pop the card in and set it to what he was using and away I go?

I am aware of the dreaded Micro-stutter but as I understand it G-sync will eliminate it, I'm planning on getting a G-sync monitor when that comes out so If I encounter Micro-stutter its not really an issue.

More concerned about noise/temps (Though this is by far the most silent GPU cooler I have ever owned) but anyone who can share their experiences would be welcomed :)

Thanks
M

Unless something goes wrong its pretty simple to get up and running - stick on the SLI bridge, boot up and it will probably do anything needed driver wise itself and then prompt you that you have an SLI capable system with a balloon tip from the system tray. Enable it through the nVidia control panel and it should all just work.

I've rarely run into any real micro-stutter issues - generally you can tweak them away if it does happen.

Say what?

It's a pretty well known fact that not all games are optimised for SLi some even having worse performance than single cards because of it. I'm not really bothered by this as I tend to play newer games and am looking forward to Star citizen

I agree some games have to issues, but not 'most'. Had very few issues with sli, and even crossfire for most part is good.

Once its setup properly it should just be a case of gaming like on a single card but with more performance. Some games will have there problems mainly at launch but these get fixed pretty fast.

Happy Christmas everyone,
Back on topic..what kind of heat/noise increases can I expect to deal with?

Well BF4 and Dayz are currently the most new games I play, BF4 has texture issues with SLI and Crossfire enabled, and Dayz doesn't work (thought it is an early access alpha(but Arma 2 which it is based on didn't work either)).

Absoloute crap. Please don't misinform people.

There are probably less than 5% of games that either have SLi problems or lack of profile. Enable it, and enjoy it.

What are they then? See above.

Could you give us a long list please.

I find most games work well with SLI, even the ones that have been AMD evolved lol.:D

The only games I play at the moment are BF4, Dayz Alpha, Arma 3, and Dishonored.

Dishonored is the only one that has 0 problems, and I didn't notice any performance increase going from 580 to 690.

I bought a 690 as everyone said microstutter is no issue with SLI onboard vs SLI twinning a pair of cards...wrong I have had microstutter in nearly every game and demo I have played, even Heaven 4 has microstutter issues with SLI enabled.

Should have bought that Titan instead tbh.

The texture bug in bf4 was fixed last week. Also ive found that both bf3 and 4 scale very nicely with sli. The fps gains can be pretty decent.

Interesting. Have you got an i5 cpu by any chance?
