First time you used the internet?

I first used the internet in 1995 or 1996 (can't remember which), i was about 21.

I was using an Amiga 1200 and a 28.8k modem, and the not so great Voyager browser for the web. My ISP was Demon's £10 a month package. Those were good times. I could finally get my hand on practically every pro tracker mod i ever wanted and was unable to rip.

I didn't move to PC until August 1997, when i built a beast with an AMD K6 233, 32MB, 3.2GBHDD, and a Matrox Mystique.

Might be showing my age (or geektastic childhood), but it was early 90s... first modem was a 2400bps, used to run a BBS and do quite a lot of that - usenet, fidonet etc. Days and days spent drawing ascii art and having real time chats with friends. Had a 286sx. Before that, RM 8086s that my dad borrowed from his school.

I remember actually having a conversation with a mate, agreeing that email would never take off and was a stupid bloated delayed way of communicating... since anyone you wanted to message was on the BBSs and you could IM them in real-time.

I think my first proper ISP was Compuserve or NetCOM UK, switched to Demon when I got the 14.4, then 28.8, 33.6, finally 56k.

Also - I remember the first time I saw a URL on a tv advert, which was weird.

At the time I thought, what the hell is that doing there? Nobody's gonna know how to look at it! ...then I realised how quickly the web was spreading...

1997- First month at secondary school using a RM 386 on Win3.11. We very quickly noticed that you could do CTRL+ALT+DEL & end restrictions :D (Lasted for about a month while I was there IIRC)
First real site I visited was the Crotrainz forum (Anyone remember?) & I've been ensconced in the train-simming community ever scince.

2000 and we acquired a new PC (PIII 400mhz, 64mb RAM  , had been an Olivetti 486), and I moved into the net via Netscape, and built the first version of my site.

A little OT, but anyone remember that game in Encarta 97?

About 10 years ago, at school. We had it at home too. I had to nag my dad to get a modem. Didn't use it much for the 'net to start with, just for playing dial up Quake against a friend.

About '95 in Middle School.
Got banned from using the pc's for 'abuse of the facilities' :p

For heavens sake, no multiple usernames?
Had 4 from people who had left :D (Several got banned after a little twerp used them for looking at pr0n through his home PC, web based control program AFAIK)

The Encarta game was the one I meant :) Pretty sure it was '97 though.

Also helped that the head technician didn't care- When connecting my lappy up in 6th form, his only request was that I didn't do anything to cause him any work lol.

My first time was when my Dad who is pretty pant's on computers got a free Compuserve CD from a shop (I think). The reason I mention he was pants was because despite being apparently easy to set up it took the good part of two days to actually connect. Then when it was connected it took a month to do anything and what you could do was fairly limited.

First week of Uni in 1995. I'd never even used a PC then so it was all a bit alien but we somehow managed to get to a search engine and find some breasts. :p

Didn't actually get the internet at home until about 1999/2000 when I bought my first PC.

I cant remember the year, but we got a 4800 modem extra for either the 386 or 486-66 so it was a LONG time ago. I`m pretty sure it was before `96 and the 486 definitely had internet and was bought close to when it was released. The days of the internet when you had to turn off pictures so you could load pages in a few minutes :D

Compuserve chat was the best :D

After that was got a 28.8k modem, then 56k and broadband in 2001/2 when it first came to our area.

Medievil game was encarta 95 i think. Think that is the only version i have (though may have got 97 with a different PC)
