this is the one I had in 1991, you could use it like this as a "mobile" or as a car phone by plugging the handset in on dash and the rest went in boot of car

Used to use one of those as well. Ours had a broken antenna connector so you had to stop and reattach it every hour or so if you were driving

First internet access was late 94 or early 95. Only really used Compuserve back then - used to hang around on the UK Rock rooms and other music rooms. I eventually became the Admin of the Oasis fan group.

First "mobile" was at work in 1991 or 1992 - it was this huge bloomin' thing with a proper handset and then a big brick power supply it plugged into and antenna you had to stick up

EDIT: Very similar to the one Rotty posted above...only it was black and red and the buttons were on the other side of the handset.

Didn't get my own mobile until much later - late 2002 I think.

didn't the codes change after that time? I recall having an 0410 number which changed to 07710 or something like when they expanded the ranges.

edit:

0410 was later used for Cellnet mobile; changed from 0410 to 07710 on 28 April 2001

I signed up to compuserve in 1991-1992, back then my email address was chosen for me and it was just a number :eek:

I was pretty late to join the mobile crowd, my first phone was a nokia 2110 sometime in 1994-95, which I think was one of the very first ones to sms enabled, though I could be completely wrong on that one. Just glad I skipped the entire analogue era.

My old man had something similar but a while before 91, his battery pack/base station was huge, wider and longer than your average presenter.

edit:

Orange ones changed significantly, Voda and O2(cellnet) just gained a 7 so mine went from 0831 to 07831, earliest voda were 0831 and Cellnet were 0850 iirc

First mobile for me was in around 1993. Was a Nokia 101 on BT Cellnet. 50p per minute and charged by the minute.

My first internet was with a 14.4 external hayes modem using compuserve.

First mobile was a nokia ringo on vodafone.
